MEDICA 2019

Evolving in an age of technological advances

With a focus on meeting the demands of the rapidly evolving healthcare market, Seers Medical, a UK manufacturer of treatment, examination and rehabilitation furniture, has chosen the ABHI UK Pavilion at Medica 2019 to launch its range of examination couches and treatment couches. The Clinical Services Journal spoke to managing director, Simon Rees, to find out more.

More than 50,000 products have been manufactured by Seers Medical since the company was formed by managing director, Simon Rees, and sales director, Keith Chittock in 2008. Now, after 11 years of trading, the company is launching some of their its new Clinnova couches at Medica 2019. Seers Medical designs and manufactures medical couches tailored to different environments, producing a choice of models and accessories to cater for different procedures, treatments and techniques. The company currently offers a range of medical couches across three ranges (clinical, therapy and sterling), including patient examination couches for medical procedures, such as gynaecology, ultrasound and phlebotomy, as well as couches designed to cater for physiotherapy, general examinations and minor treatments at GP surgeries, and private clinics.

Focusing on healthcare

The Healthcare market, which contributes £70 billion to the UK economy, is constantly evolving. Businesses looking to shape the future of healthcare, operating in an age of unparalleled technological advances, must constantly adapt and improve to successfully operate within this mutable environment. According to Simon Rees, meeting the rapidly changing demands of the healthcare market is a key focus for Seers Medical, which he says continues to push the boundaries of being the ‘industry standard’ for medical couches, globally. This means persistently investing in the latest technologies to improve on product design and functionality to fulfil the needs of customers worldwide. “As a company, we are constantly investing in new technological advances within changing healthcare applications, using state of the art technology to ensure that Seers Medical products remain leading edge and high quality,” he said. “Using sophisticated design tools, new

concepts and product designs are constantly being introduced to fulfil our customers’ requirements, allowing us to persist in raising the bar of customer and industry expectation.” Simon explained that the company’s new range of couches was born with exactly this in mind: “The intention of Clinnova was to offer greater variants to the customer, so that instead of taking what’s available, the customer can configure their couch to the specification they actually require.”

Benefits for patients and clinicians

The new range, designed with clinical innovation, longevity and patients in mind, comes with significant changes and will eventually supersede the existing Seers

Medicare and Therapy ranges. The range is designed to make room for greater patient-centricity, enlisting a customisable approach to healthcare, based on each person’s unique needs. Like precision medicine, the promise is to change the way healthcare is delivered, tailored to the varying needs of individual customers. It is said to allow for increased safe working loads, improve infection control and will come equipped with new ergonomic, configuration and personalisation features.

Tailored to individual needs

According to Simon Rees, Clinnova is not a single couch, it is a ‘design’ for couches used in any healthcare application.
