Hollywood Casino in Charles Town has earned the honour of being the first casino licensed to offer sports betting in West Virginia. Te West Virginia Lottery Commission’s legal counsel, Danielle Boyd, said: “Te casinos continue to make progress and are working diligently to begin accepting wagers on property with mobile and online wagering to come shortly thereafter. It is our understanding that Hollywood Casino in Charles Town will accept wagers by September. 1, and two other properties should be ready to do the same.”

Te Commission released emergency rules on July 9 that allow the state’s five casinos to set up sports betting in readiness for the football season. Casinos need to pay $100,000 for a one year license which allows for sports books and for sports wagering apps that can only accept online and mobile wagers from customers inside the borders of West Virginia.
