NPE2018 REVIEW | ADDITIVES

2018 for controlling odour and VOCs, in recycled as well as virgin polymers. Struktol RP 17 is a combined lubricant and odour neutralising mask, which was originally designed for wood-plastic composites, but has been modified for use in polymer resins and compounds that require the multi-functionality of lubrication, mould release, and odour reduction. Struktol RP 53 uses a blend of odour neutralis- ing chemistries for high-odour compounds containing problematic species such as mercap- tans, amines, and phosphites. The additive is approved for FDA applications. Struktol RP 59 is a blend of odour neutralising chemistries and VOC absorbers intended for high-odour, and high-vola- tile content compounds. The additive can be used in a variety of polymer resins but is primarily targeted at polyolefins. RP 59 is very effective in packaging applications to not only reduce or eliminate odours in the packaging polymer but also absorb odours coming from the packaged product. Compatibiliser additives were also shown by

Struktol at NPE. These included TR 229 (for PC and PC/ABS) and TR 219 (PA 6 and 6,6). New combina-

tion products included RP 23 and TR 251. TR 052 is a compatibiliser and blending aid that Struktol says is highly beneficial for incorporating regrind/ recycled materials in a wide range of polymers. (Also see Compatibilisers feature, page 47.)
