order to address this issue, says Starlinger, custom- ised material preparation in accordance with the subsequent recycling process can be offered. Starlinger says that it always strives for long-term
partnerships in PET recycling; many companies have been recycling PET with Starlinger lines for more than ten years. An example of such a long- term partnership is BTB PET-Recycling, based in
Bad Salzuflen, Germany. The owner-managed company has operated a Starlinger recycling line type RecoSTAR PET 165 iV+ for bottle-to-bottle recycling since 2007. Andrzej Zajontz, Managing Director at BTB PET-Recycling, reports that their Starlinger recycling line is insensitive to variations in input material – these can be compensated by parameter adjustments alone. This is important because market requirements are constantly changing, and so the company feels the need to stay flexible and adapt their line to new trends in the plastics industry. Over the years, the design of PET bottles has evolved to make them lighter and reduce wall thickness, and additives such as acetaldehyde and oxygen blockers are frequently added. In 2013 and 2015, the capacity of the line at BTB PET-Recycling was increased through additional equipment, and Starlinger regularly provides upgrades to keep the machine up-to-date from a technical point of view. After ten years, the line showed 76,000 operating hours, which means that it has been running continuously except for service intervals. Starlinger concludes by emphasising that

The plastics recycling industry is a complex, dynamic segment with a varied supply stream and value chain. With prices of recyclate intrinsically linked to the price of virgin resin, demand and the financial viability of the process is often subject to fluctuations in raw material prices.
In the new report from AMI Consulting, you can gain a strong understanding of the new opportunities available to you such as:
• how developments in mechanical recycling technology are changing the shape of the plastics recycling industry
• increasing the ability to recover more plastics in a closed-loop, and helping to retain maximum value
• how to take advantage of this changing and developing industry.
