Packaging is about much more than just product protection and presentation and that is especially the case in the highly demanding cosmetics market. Taking place in Cologne, Germany, on 14-15 November 2017, Cosmetics Packaging 2017 is a brand new event that brings together an interna- tional line-up of expert speakers to discuss ground- breaking developments in materials, production techniques, digitalisation and design aimed specifically at packaging and closure technologies for cosmetics, fragrances, beauty products and the personal care sector. This article previews the event and details the speakers taking part.

Trends and regulation The cosmetics packaging industry is facing a range of emerging consumer trends and regulatory requirements. With this in mind, the opening session of the conference will take a look at how these are impacting on packaging development. Praveen Bhatia, Member of the Board of Directors at WIFAG Polytype India Marketing, will start the day with a presentation sharing insight into the

impact of fashion trends on the global cosmetics packaging industry. Then Joan Baughan, Partner at law firm Keller & Heckman in the US, will follow with an examination of compliance with US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements for cosmetic packaging materials. The conference will then move on to discuss the

ways that interactive and personalised packaging can heighten a consumer’s experience of brand and product. Hui Lee, Senior Director of Business Development at E Ink Corporation in the US, will explain how the company’s novel electronic paper and personalised digital packaging for cosmetics can be applied in practice. Then Christophe Bianchi, CEO of Feeligreen in France, will discuss how smart packaging could see cosmetic packag- ing transform into a beauty device. Session three provides an opportunity for

delegates to find out how function and design can be combined to create exceptional examples of packaging. Dr Jaakko Raukola, CEO of Finnish company Iscent, will review its work on iridescent films for cosmetic packaging. Renaud Vuillet,
