Maplan starts Slovak construction
Austria’s Maplan, a producer of machinery for rubber and TPEs, is beginning the construction of a new plant at an industrial park in Malacky, between Vienna and Bratislava in Slovakia, at a cost of €4.5m. To date, 18 people have been hired and 50 more will be added. The location will have a 3,500m2 production hall and a 400m2 office building on the 30,000m2
site. Ground-
breaking is planned for March 2018.

This is part of a €20m investment planned by the beginning of 2018. Maplan is expanding at its main site
in Kottingbrunn, where a switch from individual production to line produc- tion has allowed it to double
capacity to over 500 machines per year in 2017 and to reduce throughput times by 30%. Maplan expects sales of €50m this year, its highest total ever, but plans to increase this further to €72m in five years. Expansion in Asia is part of this and the company will start produc- ing for the Asian market in China. The components and assemblies are already being made in Slovakia. �

Wittmann Battenfeld’s new MES partner CSP grows in US and
Wittmann Battenfeld and MPDV Mikrolab of Germany are to cooperate in selling MPDV’s Hydra software for manufacturing execution systems (MES). The new partnership does not apply to Wittmann Battenfeld USA. Wittmann Battenfeld previously sold MES
software from TIG, based in Austria, until TIG was acquired by Engel in October last year. The stated aim of the partnership be-
tween Wittmann Battenfeld and MPDV is to supply plastics processors with both produc- tion equipment and software management
modules for flexible production, “thus promoting the optimisation of manufactur- ing processes and quality management systems with maximum transparency of all processes”. Hydra combines modular design and multiple functional elements, which can be combined to specific user needs. The MES software will be demonstrated

RPC Bramlage expands Slovak site
RPC Bramlage is opening a new production hall at its site in Velky Meder, Slovakia,
to supply the southern and eastern European markets. Covering 2,700 m2
, this has
doubled the size of the injection moulding produc- tion area.

Injection moulding equipment and assembly lines worth €4.2m will enable the company to produce a wider range of both bespoke and standard packs for markets including personal care, food packaging, building and household products, notably its ranges of dispensers and crème jars. �

France US rigid packaging group CSP Technologies is expanding its Auburn facility in Alabama. Construction has started at the site, located adjacent to its existing headquarters, and will increase the facility’s manufacturing and warehousing capacity by 110,000 square feet. CSP also recently added clean room manufacturing and high cavitation stack cube moulding with in-mould process capabilities to increase manufacturing efficiency at its plant in Neiderbronn-les-Bains, France.
CSP plans to produce dry powder inhalers and other medical devices in the near future. �
