companies within Piovan Group. The development of the new Conair by Doteco brand reflects Piovan’s desire to deliver Doteco technology to the North American market, the company says. The products will be marketed through Conair Group’s extensive sales and service organisation in North America. The Grado Adroit gravimetric blender is capable

of batch dosing in a minimal amount of space and is designed to offer modular construction and a self-supporting structure. The model line utilises what Conair calls a “mixer on a load cell build” in which the load cells are part of a high-resolution weighing system that maximises analog accuracy, reduces weighing cycle time and increases throughput capacity over time as the control learns the material and process. Proprietary software used by the blender’s control learns the process and the material as each batch is processed. An integrated loading system control and gravimetric control allows the unit to manage more of the process from one location. The Grado Adroit product is available with two to six ingredient hoppers capable of handling throughputs from 440 to 2,860 lbs/hr depending on model size. Features include food-grade materials and finishes that ensure all resin contact surfaces are easy to clean and maintain, as well as a round-bottom mixing chamber and drain spouts on each ingredient hopper which allows for quick cleaning and restart after material changes. Conair’s Blendo Adroit line of continuous

gravimetric loss-in-weight dosing units is designed to blend resin where dosing accuracy and com- plete homogeneous dispensing of additives to the throat of the processing machinery is required. The modular construction is capable of blending between two and six components and is capable of throughputs of 450 to 1,800 lbs/hr. Easily accessible auger screws allow for quick

and thorough cleaning with no tools required. A manual slide gate allows for inspection of the auger screw without emptying the hopper. The blender unit is unaffected by vibrations, and each material hopper bin has a drain spout for quick and com- plete emptying of each ingredient. The model incorporates a cascade mixer which provides outstanding ingredient dosing, including resins with different bulk densities and pellet size. The feed hopers each have a sight glass for visual inspection and level control. They feature a quick-release clamp for easy cover removal, says Conair. Flexicon, a manufacturer of bulk handling equipment, developed a new Mobile Sanitary IBC Unloading and Conveying system that transfers contamination-sensitive bulk solid materials from

Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs) to downstream processes, dust-free. The conveyor handles a broad range of free- and non-free flowing bulk solids ranging from pellets to sub-micron powders with no separation of blended products. The system is comprised of a discharger frame mounted on caster for in-plant mobility, with a hinged subframe that supports a surge hopper, flexible screw conveyor and support mast that can pivot down for maneuvering through doorways and low-headroom areas. The IBC frame is fork- lifted onto receiving cups which position the IBC outlet onto the surge hopper inlet. Material flowing from the IBC into the charging adapter of a flexible screw conveyor is propelled at an incline and discharged into elevated process equipment and storage vessels, the company says. The flexible screw is the only moving part contact- ing material. It is driven by an electric motor positioned beyond the discharge point which prevents material contact with the seals. Flexicon designed the mobile unit as ready to plug and run, where it can serve multiple functions throughout the plant. It can be rolled to a cleaning station where a lower clean-out cap on the con- veyor tube can be removed to flush the smooth interior surfaces, or the flexible screw can be fully removed for cleaning and inspection. Flexicon offers the system in carbon steel with a durable industrial coating, with stainless steel material contact surfaces, or in an all-stainless-steel finish.
