Diverse developments in materials handling
Efficient materials handling is important for smooth-running production. Mikell Knights discovers what’s new from suppliers of conveying and feeding equipment
Recent innovations in materials handling equip- ment focus on updated controls for ease of use, increased modularity and scalability of systems that simplify configuration changes, integration of equipment for increased accuracy with energy savings and solutions that minimise mass flow issues or offer dust-free conveying. Wittmann Group has updated central convey-
ing control with the new E-Max 2 compact unit designed as a solution for small to medium-sized material conveying applications. The unit can be used to implement material conveying with up to 24 conveying points and up to two vacuum circuits. Central material loaders used in a conveying system can be connected to the E-Max 2 in a simple manner, which enables the material convey-

ing control system to be set up quickly and easily. The system can be expanded to include additional material loaders if required. The E-Max 2 is operated and visualised via a
high-resolution 5.7-in touchscreen display. Simple settings as well as more extensive entries of different conveying parameters can be entered, with the goal of optimising the processes in the conveying system. The E-Max 2 has a user adminis- tration function to define access rights to addition- ally securing the system. E-Max 2 complements Wittmann’s eMax/24 unit, which handles up to 24 vacuum loaders for a single system that includes a single vacuum pump, or up to 22 vacuum loaders for two systems each, with automatic switchover and control of bypass valves,
