NPE 2024 | EXHIBITION PREVIEW
At NPE 2024, ID Additives will demonstrate its Eco-Pro 360 plastic mould cleaning system. Eco-Pro 360 is a preven-
tative maintenance cleaning system for injection moulds and other products such as pump and filter combination units. It removes, protects, and helps prevent rust and limescale within the cooling passages and water lines in the mould. A built-in filter function helps it to retain optimum performance. “The demonstrations will show why it’s
important to maintain clean water lines, optimal cooling efficiency and turbulent flow,” said Bryan Whitaker, technical manager at ID Additives.

KraussMaffei will demonstrate a wide range of its injection moulding machinery at NPE – in- cluding ‘direct compounding’ equipment and a new MuCell screw. At the event, an all-electric PX 251-1400 will
produce 32 medical blood vials per shot from PP 9074 MED material from ExxonMobil. After shredding, the vials serve as base material for an up-cycling process. Bonding agents and liquid pigments are added, mixed and homogenised, then the recyclate is re-moulded on an all-electric PX 81-180. Because recyclates can cause process fluctuations – due to different viscosities – the PX 81-180 is equipped with APCplus. This compen- sates for fluctuations, allowing components to be made with consistently high quality. Another highlight is the company’s direct compounding injection moulding (DCIM) process, which can save up to 50% of material costs, while giving processors more freedom and control. For DCIM, a single-screw extruder is installed in a space-saving piggyback position directly over the injection unit of a standard hydraulic machine. The melt is conveyed into the plasticising unit in a single heating process, which reduces polymer degradation. The one-step process also conserves energy and reduces the CO2 footprint. At the show, a GX 1100-4300 DCIM will produce reusable crates made of three different recyclates. KraussMaffei will also highlight its new universal
screw for MuCell applications, which has a 30% higher plasticising performance. It has a longer three-zone area, which can be used for all plastics (with and without fibre reinforcement). It allows smaller screw diameters to be used, which reduces

investment and operating costs for the plasticising unit.

Milacron will showcase its new
M-Series platform of injection moulding machines – which features what it says is the largest standard clamp stroke in the mid-tonnage hybrid range. Powered by Fanuc motors and
drives, the M-Series is designed to meet the demanding needs of industries including automotive, consumer goods and packaging. “Much has evolved in plastics processing since NPE 2018, including our
integration into the Hillen- brand family,” said Mac Jones, president of Milacron. In addition to its M-Series machine line, Milacron’s will showcase several
work cells and exhibits, alongside innovations from sister companies DME, Mold-Masters and Rotex. Two different M-Series machine applications will be demonstrated. The M-1070, featuring Mold- Masters co-injection technology, is a two-cavity, mould-pail application with up to 50% recycled core and includes in-mould labeling (IML) automa- tion. The M-500 machine cell features a Mold-Mas- ters hot runner and Kurz in-mould decoration technology for custom textures and backlit applications in global automotive and appliance applications. Several variations of Milacron’s Q-Series
platform will also be seen at NPE. The Q-Series features a double-toggle design that leverages a servo-hydraulic package delivering quality parts at a rapid pace while minimising energy use. At the show, a Q-170 machine will display a new G3 Mosaic control, DME mould technolo- gies running a bio-resin material, and custom ID/serialisation and QR code stamping.
