Lanxess invests in China; adds global FR products

Lanxess is to invest around €20 million in a compound- ing plant at its Changzhou site in China capable of producing up to 25,000 tonnes/year of its Durethan and Pocan PA and PBT plastics for the automotive, electrical and electronics sector. The new plant is expected to start produc- tion in Q2 2019 and will employ 35. A key factor in the move

is China’s large and growing automotive market; it is expected to account for one third of all cars sold globally by 2025. Lanxess says the country is also a pace-setter in the electrical and elec- tronics markets. It expects to

AkzoNobel prepares to separate

AkzoNobel shareholders formally approved plans to separate its Specialty Chemicals business from its Paints and Coatings operation at an EGM last month, preparing the way for a sale or IPO of the former business.

It had first announced the plans back in March following its rejection of an unsolic-

ited take-over of the company by PPG. The Specialty Chemicals business

generates sales of around €4.8bn last year. It includes AkzoNobel’s peroxides and polymer additives activities. The latter includes carbon blacks, antistats, flame retardants and coupling agents. www.akzonobel.com

DowDuPont Transportation & Advanced Polymers, a business segment of the firm’s Speciality Products division, is increasing capacity for its DuPont Zytel HTN brand of high performance PA at its facility at Mechelen in Belgium. The company said it has installed a new compound- ing line at the site that will begin operation before the end of 2017. The move is said to be a response to strengthening demand for the PPA resin, which is used in the automotive, consumer and electronics markets. The investment follows

recent investments at other Dow DuPont sites in Germany and China. Zytel HTN PPAs are said to offer “outstanding chemical resistance, retention of properties when exposed to moisture and perfor- mance at high tempera- tures”, according to the company. www.dow-dupont.com
