China XD updates on compounding plans

China XD Plastics, which makes polymer compounds primarily for automotive applications, revealed in its Q3 results that it has made further progress with its major new investments at three sites in China and Dubai.

Its new facility in Sichuan

province now has 50 compounding lines installed with 216,000 tonnes/year of capacity. Construction of the campus is expected to be complete in Q1 2018 and, when fully operational, capacity will reach 300,000 tonnes/year. A plant to produce 300,000 tonnes of bio-composite and additive manufacturing materials and 20,000 tonnes of functional masterbatch at Nanchong City is expected to completed by the end of December 2018. The company said it is also investing at its home

base of Harbin, in north-east China, where it is upgrading existing equipment to provide an additional 100,000 tonnes/year of engineering plastics capacity. This will be complete in 1H 2018. And it plans to have 95 lines with 25,000 tonnes/year of capac- ity installed at its Dubai plant by the end of 2018. “The Dubai facility will

target high-end products for overseas markets and will ultimately help us both

source raw materials and make inroads into the markets of Europe, the Middle East, Russia and other overseas markets,” said CEO and Chairman Jie Han. Sales for Q3 2017 totalled $311m, compared to $331m for the same period in 2016. The $20m decline was attributed predominantly to increased volumes of lower-priced modified PP grades sup- plied to Chinese customers. www.chinaxd.net

Deltech releases high flow PS resins

US-based Deltech Polymers has commercialised two high melt flow polystyrene grades for the compound- ing and masterbatch markets. The company said the move gives it “one of the broadest offering of additive-free crystal polysty- rene products”.

additive-free grade specifi- cally for the colour master- batch and additive markets. Both are already being used in colour and additive compounds due to their high melt flows, which mean it is not necessary to add mineral oil to decrease viscosity. The company said that, as colour and additive compounders mostly prefer to add their own lubricants and dispersants rather than having them in the resin, it is

supplying the 930ZF as a “barefoot resin” containing no internal lubricant, such as zinc stearate. It said PS920H- MF can also be supplied zinc-free.

“930ZF is successfully being used in highly loaded TiO2

applications where the lower viscosity is a major plus in compounding such high filler loadings,” said Brent Reedstrom, Deltech VP of Quality and New Product Development. www.deltechcorp.com

NEWS IN BRIEF...

PVC maker Vinnolit is expanding capacity for chlorine and VCM at its Gendorf site in southern Germany. The company produces the PVC interme- diates at Gendorf and another German site at Knapsack, supplying neighbouring facilities at Burghausen and Cologne. It said the aim of the capacity expansion is “to balance regional capaci- ties better and reduce VCM transports”. www.vinnolit.com

Italian speciality chemicals company Italmatch, which supplies performance additives for multiple applications including plastics, has acquired Sudfamos do Brasil, a Brazilian distribution company focused on phosphonates and other speciality chemical products. Italtech said the deal will give it a stronger presence in the Latin American market. www.italmatch.com

Netherlands-based Parx Plastics has signed a deal to set up a Chinese joint venture with Sino-Italy Tus Investment called Ningbo Parx New Materials. The move is intended to take the company’s antimicro- bial technology into the Chinese market through a facility in the Sino-Italy Ecological Park, a 40 km2 environmental-focused zone in the Yangtze Delta region. www.parxplastics.com
