Is honey a good alternative sweetener? Though honey is essentially sugar, it is a much more complex sweetener than table sugar. Table sugar is made up of glucose and fructose, while honey is comprised of a wide variety of different natural sugars, as well as trace minerals and vitamins picked up by the bees. How do you measure honey? It can be hard to neatly measure out honey. To keep the honey from sticking to the measuring spoon or cup, try these tricks. Before using, run the measuring utensil under very hot water or spray it with cooking spray.

The American Academy of Pediatrics advises parents not to give honey in any form to babies under 12 months - whether it be on a spoon, in a drink, or even baked into bread. Honey may contain spores which can lead to botulism poisoning, a condition which almost exclusively affects infants.
