MUSHROOM DAYS PREVIEW Mycelia, SacO2 and Mycelia Academy, stand 64

“The Mushroom Days event provides a fantastic opportunity to present our latest innovations to a large audience, and there are a lot of innovations on show”, says Kasper Moreaux. - Mycelia Academy – Est. 2021 The most important innovation is without doubt our new spin-off, the Mycelia Academy. The name says it all: Five enthusiastic managers from the mushroom industry have established a brand new company. The Mycelia Aca- demy has a single objective: to provide training and education for everyone pas- sionate about the mushroom industry in its broadest sense. The activities at the Mycelia School provided the starting point, and the established team was expanded further with the addition of new consultants and professionals. The core of the current training programme consists of the ‘Substrate and Mushroom Course’, the ‘Mycelium Production Course’ and ‘Consultancy’ and we intend to devise and develop the ‘Mycomaterials and Biofabrication Course’ in the near future. Furthermore, the first online modules are already in the pipeline. We want to cater to all levels of production: production workers, pickers and middle management. - Mycelia The Mycelia mission is clear: create room

‘newcomers’ are cordyceps, morels, fungi for mycomaterials, new produc- tion varieties for lion’s mane and oyster mushrooms, chaga and psilocybe. - SacO2

for diversity within the mushroom industry and produce high quality, affordable products. To achieve this, it requires extensive research into innova- tion and applying smart growing techni- ques. Consisting of five team members, our Myco-vision research team posses- ses all the right qualities. We have moved far beyond the definition of a traditional spawn company. We offer more than 250 public production strains and species and more than 1500 diffe- rent products and product combinati- ons. About half of these are available online, in the first fully fledged webshop to sell spawn for professionals. The webshop offers all stages of multiplica- tion, from cultures to spawn. We are pioneers when it comes to pretty much every variety of cultivated fungi. Some

Mycelia and SacO2 share the same busi- ness DNA: we both enjoy a challenge. At SacO2, the challenge lies in providing tailor-made solutions for spawn and substrate producers. We may offer a standard range, but we also work to match the specific requirements of the customer: we collaborate with you to find the most suitable filter/bag combination for your production methods. A recent innovation is the ability to quantify all designs. We research your product and design a customised incuba- tion bag, on the basis of mushrooms you grow in your specific location. This is unique to the sector!

Production wise, we are also in a very healthy position. Our machinery has been expanded by three full lines and many extra employees. A new PE line, a new PP line and a new Microbox line: our growth mirrors the growth of our customers. Moreover, we hold a priceless trump card: not only do we have a com- plete R&D department, we also have a sister company that can test our spawn and substrate products immediately in real life. The perfect match!

Sterckx, stand 16

Sterckx, a family company founded in 1967, produces phase I, II and III mushroom substrate. The bulk supply of phase III compost is the core business of the company. Less well known is the fact that Sterckx also supplies vacuum cooled blocks, as commercial director Henry Breukers explains. “Alongside the supply of substrate in bulk and casing soil, we also produce compost blocks for customers all over the world. In 2019, we acquired Shasta from Teun Kampen (see article in MB60/PAD4, 2013). Since the takeover, we have produced vacuum cooled compost blocks at the premises on the Metaalweg in Venray. They are then distributed via reefers to customers in countries

including Japan, Malaysia and Israel. The demand for compost blocks remains high and we supply to smaller growers as well as larger growers in Europe. In May, Sterckx will once again exhibit

during the Mushroom Days event in Den Bosch. Breukers: “Everyone is welcome at stand 16 for a chat and an excellent cup of coffee, or a Belgian beer of course!”
