student and driver behavior using internal cameras. an area of about 245 square miles using 600 buses. Jim Ellis, the director of transportation since 2020, spoke at STN EXPO East in Indianapolis on adding Wi-Fi to school buses. addition to student ridership verification technology. Ellis, the director of transportation for Henrico County Public Schools in Virginia, explained that last school year the district piloted RFID cards with elementary students and this year will be expanding them throughout the school system. He said the RFID cards eliminate questions about what children rode the bus or what bus stop they got off at. Additionally, he said the Edulog technology suite allows drivers to better identify students because the tablets show the student’s picture and name. He added that tablets have been installed on buses for the past two years, but use cases have been expanding. What started as a way to provide driver directions is now an increased safety technology that tells drivers if students are getting off at the right stop. Henrico also has a parent app that eliminates parent phone calls asking where the bus is.
