The school district can pull that data wirelessly to see if there was a child left on the bus,” Urquhart said. “A kindergartner that fell asleep and crawled under the bus seat is not always easy to see,” Abbot noted. “We can program the camera to stay on after the bus is turned off for a while and wirelessly access it to see if a student who had gotten on the bus had gotten off the bus. It helps us figure out the kid is on the bus somewhere and the bus driver didn’t do their due diligence.” Cameras also can be used in analyzing bullying cases or
to determine if a weapon was brought on the bus. “You try to count for everybody. It’s a hard job. There’s
a lot you have to do,” said Abbot. “It only takes that one distraction, that one loss of focus and unfortunately, a kid gets hurt.” Urquhart said that with the technology being wireless
and cloud-based, there’s no wait to pull data or worries about lost footage. “We have a driver alert button that when an incident
happens. The driver can just press that button and it auto- matically notifies an analyst at the district level to look at this particular section of the video because something has happened.”
