Partnerships to Enhance School Bus Safety for Children with Disabilities

artnerships are one of the many positive ways to tackle the complexity of transporting children with disabilities to and from school safely. Pupil transportation professionals in conjunction with


vendors can build capacity and effectively advocate for school transportation safety. The ultimate goal being im- proved safety outcomes for children and stakeholders. Creating working alliances significantly increases


the well-being of the school transportation industry, for serving one of our most vulnerable groups of chil- dren requiring specialized transportation services. The exchange of ideas and knowledge helps to achieve sustainable improvement in safety practices. Collabora- tion provides a rich opportunity to integrate information and knowledge from familiar and different points of


view. Working partnerships provide a workforce that encourages the coordination of shared information and enhances training opportunities for multiple school transportation industry audiences. The importance of vendors partnering with school transportation professionals becomes far more than selling goods or services. It provides an opportunity to impart knowledge, listen and learn from stakeholders, and coordinate information sharing. It supports an opportunity for joint problem-solving, solution building, and increasing stakeholders being heard. This culture shift is timely and responsive to providing a roadmap for the school transportation industry.
