Meanwhile, Cummins and Anhui Jianghuai Automo-

bile Co. Ltd. (JAC Motors, based in China) announced in May 2018 that the two companies are forming a 50-50 joint- venture, after Cummins purchased Navistar’s 50 percent equity in the JAC-Navistar Diesel Engine Com- pany (JND). The new joint venture is continuing its operations at the manufacturing facility in Hefei. Cummins currently supplies light-duty, mid-range and heavy-duty engines to JAC Motors for its domestic market in China, plus its global operations. that were learned from a strategic partnership between the two companies on the SmartAdvantage automated powertrain that was launched in 2013. That device focused heavily on improving fuel economy. “We think this partic- ular joint venture absolutely strengthens the case for our vehicle business,” he added. Cummins Chairman and CEO Tom Linebarger

commented that the Cummins growth strategy “in- cludes expanding our product offerings and extending our global footprint by becoming the world’s leading powertrain supplier.” Linebarger predicted that “Our joint venture with Eaton will deliver the most advanced automated transmissions, and develop an integrated
