Accountability & Information The transparency and accountability that are pro-
vided by smart fueling and data collection is especially valuable for public entities, like school districts or other government agencies. “You can’t put fuel in an unauthorized vehicle; it won’t
allow you to,” said Bobby Hayes, domestic sales manager for OPW Global, which also makes smart fueling products. “Once you pull that nozzle out, you can’t put it into a can or another vehicle. [If so], it automatically stops the flow of the product.”
Since propane is a closed-loop fueling system, fuel
loss or theft is not an issue—and maintenance require- ments are less than with diesel. But the data that is available through smart fueling is still highly valuable for propane systems. “School bus fleets appreciate that the unit tracks
key data, like driver and vehicle identification, vehicle mileage, and gallons pumped, for a virtually unlimited number of buses and drivers,” said Crystelle Markley, a spokesperson for Superior Energy Systems.
