October, 2023 New IO-Link Master from Emerson

ST. LOUIS, MO — Emerson has introduced a new Class A, IO-Link master that provides customers with a cost-effective solution for smart and analog sensor connectivity on the AVENTICS™ series G3 Fieldbus platform. The G3 IO-Link master is suitable for machine architectures with many sensors and pneumatic valves, and where it’s impor- tant to have reliable digital data communica- tion between field devices, such as sensors and the machine controller. IO-Link is an internationally standardized

I/O technology (IEC 61131-9) for communica- tion at the sensor/actuator level in machine control. During replacement, IO-Link devices can identify and configure themselves automat-

ically, saving maintenance time. The IO-Link master provides pneumatic

valve control through direct digital data com- munication with the machine controller. It offers event-based and I/O mapped diagnos- tics — both important predictive mainte- nance requirements for Industry 4.0 and

Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applica- tions. By adding the IO-Link capabilities to valve systems, customers can include multi- ple IO-Link masters on only one G3 Fieldbus platform, saving hardware costs. Customers can cut costs by reducing the

IO-Link master. 

number of communication nodes. G3 IO-Link master is optimized for sensor-rich applica- tions with eight Class A ports per module to support multiple IO-Link smart and standard analog sensors. The IO-Link master can be dis- tributed up to 30 meters away from G3. Together with the 20-meter IO-Link cable length maximum, the sensors can be located up to 50 total meters from the G3 Fieldbus platform. As a result, material cost is reduced, and machines are more stream- lined because fewer cables are required.

OKW Intros Transparent Soft-Touch

Lacquer BRIDGEVILLE, PA — OKW has launched a new transparent soft- touch lacquer, enabling design- ers to specify a “velvet” finish for its plastic enclosures and tuning knobs in any color. The new lac- quer is ideal for a wide range of OKW enclosures and poten- tiometer knobs, notably those used for handheld and wearable electronics. The new transparent lacquer

allows any color beneath it to shine through — offering electron- ics designers a huge choice of options. Designers can specify OKW enclosures and tuning knobs in any custom color based on RAL code, Pantone shade or by matching a sample supplied by the customer. OKW uses high-quality UV-

resistant two-component lac- quers to customize its products. These lacquers offer varying degrees of luster from matte to glossy. Matte lacquers prevent undesirable light reflections, making discreet enclosure de - signs appear even more under- stated. Glossy lacquers add a smart, modern look. Other lac- quering options include metallic finishes, an antibacterial lacquer (which stops bacteria from set- tling and multiplying) and a black ESD conductive lacquer that prevents electrostatic dis- charges.
