Page 81 Tilted CT X-Ray Inspection from Nikon

BRIGHTON, MI — A pioneering X-ray computed laminography (CL) technique has been intro- duced by the Industrial Metrology Business Unit of Nikon Corporation. It is for non- destructively inspecting chal- lenging components using com- puted tomography (CT) systems. Called Tilted CT, available now, the new method greatly im - proves voxel resolution when examining flat, high aspect ratio components. It also enhances quality control by producing clearer images of samples of any shape in which dense areas can mask those that are less dense. When scanning flat compo- nents, which may have a small

BTU to Unveil Largest Reflow Oven

NORTH BILLERICA, MA — BTU International is introducing its largest reflow oven ever pro- duced. The new Aurora 200N will be on display in BTU’s stand at productronica 2023. With 200 inches of heat, the system sup- ports line speeds that are up to 25% faster than those supported by the Aurora 150N introduced earlier this year. In addition, the

area of interest in the center that needs to be inspected, convention- al 3D CT has limitations in terms of resolution because the axis of rotation of the item under investi- gation is at 90 degrees to the X-ray beam. It is therefore not feasible to position the component closer to the source to increase the magnifi- cation of the area of interest and improve resolution, because the sample as it turns would collide with the source. Innovative CL data acquisi-

tion using Tilted CT avoids the problem by allowing the axis of

rotation to be adjusted by up to 30 degrees, which means the sample can fully rotate beneath the X-ray source. Higher magnification and enhanced image clarity are achieved in faster scan times when

examining, for example, printed circuit board assemblies or probe cards used in automated wafer

testing. Contact: Nikon Metrology, Inc., 12701 Grand River Avenue,
