While the reefing pennant is being winched tight the sail must be flapping. Watch for jams.
6. Winch in the reefing pennant. 7. Ease the topping lift and pull in the mainsheet and kicking strap/vang. 8. Tidy the other reefing pennants and lines. 9. Put a sail tie through the clew and around the boom to reinforce the reef.
10. Tidy the sail onto the boom with sail ties, using loosened reef knots or bows.
Now that the sails are balanced in size, the boat sails straight, fast, and comfortably again.
