Introduction


Every year, more than 9,000 people throughout the world complete an RYA Day Skipper course at one of over 320 RYA Recognised Training Centres. Using an RYA Recognised Training Centre will ensure that you are taught to the RYA’s high standards and your course will be safe, informative, and enjoyable.


This new edition of the RYA Day Skipper Practical Course Notes has been compiled to support the course and draws on the cumulative experience of hundreds of experienced Instructors. It sits alongside another publication for the RYA Day Skipper course, RYA Day Skipper Shorebased Notes. It is expected that you will have either completed the RYA Day Skipper Theory Course or carried out self-study to the same standard prior to attending the practical course.


The techniques shown or described are tried and tested and are suitable for most types of cruising yacht, sail and motor.
