• Identify any important features or resources, such as fuel and water access, by referring to more detailed charts/appropriately zoomed electronic charts as necessary
• Identify useful aids to navigation, such as buoyage, transits, sector lights, RACONS etc.
• Look up the tidal-stream and tidal-height cycles for the duration of the passage. Identify any resulting limiting factors
• Access a weather forecast for the duration and area of the passage
• Look up times of sunset and sunrise. Remember that an unlit navigational mark becomes a hazard at night
• Apply any knowledge gained from previous passages in the same area 6
