Telltales on the headsail indicate wind flow over the sail. When close-hauled, sail so that the telltales on both sides of the sail are flying nearly horizontal.
Telltales on the leech of the mainsail are adjusted by mainsheet and kicking-strap tension. The mainsheet adjusts the telltale when sailing close-hauled. The kicking strap adjusts the telltale on a reach or run.
