Façade Access Solution by GIND UK & Integral Cradles

About this Product/Service

GIND UK and Integral Cradles work together to create permanent façade access solutions across the UK for high buildings with unique specifications and demands. The two companies deliver a whole lifecycle solution, from conception to completion and ongoing maintenance.

To date, their teams have designed and installed solutions for iconic buildings such as The Scalpel (52 Lime Street, London), The Cheesegrater (the Leadenhall Building, London) and The Gherkin (30 St Mary’s Axe, London).

At The Scalpel, Integral Cradles designed and installed two of the largest building maintenance units (BMU) of their kind at that time. Mounted permanently at roof level, this is the safest and most comprehensive type of suspended access system used as a working platform.

Company Profile

GIND UK and Integral Cradles work together to create permanent façade access solutions across the UK for high buildings with unique specifications and demands. The two companies deliver a whole lifecycle solution, from conception to completion and ongoing maintenance.

The larger unit installed on the west side of the building has a 19-metre operating radius, is 49 metres in height, weighs 41,300kg and has a 1,000-kg glass replacement capacity.

Working collaboratively with the architects, developers and main contractor, Integral Cradles designed and constructed an innovative roofing system for the total concealment of the units within the building.

As an extra design feature, the east BMU was designed with a roof panel comprising photovoltaic cells, which move and slide in tandem with the unit’s operation. The cells provide renewable energy for the building, a valuable extra benefit of the system.

As a result of the success of the BMUs, a fully comprehensive warranty agreement was reached between CBRE and GIND UK. This sees engineers servicing and testing the installed access equipment in accordance with the statute and recommendations of the manufacturer. As you can imagine, for a piece of equipment that suspends users, the highest levels of safety and quality are adhered to by GIND UK. Servicing occurs every three months, with a 24/7 call-out and rescue facility in place.
