SUSTAINABILITY BY DESIGN
Workplaces that refl ect a company’s sustainable ethos, can help to deliver a happier, more productive, appealing and responsible working environment for the future, says Ollie Plastow, Director at Consensus Workspace.
Offi ce interiors have changed a great deal over the last few years. We have seen a move from corporate styles to increased comfort, with a real focus on employee health and wellbeing - both physical and mental.

As organisations attempt to recoup and recover from the ongoing impact of COVID-19, and look to recruit and move forward, one factor that cannot be overlooked is sustainability.

It has to remain a priority, alongside everything else that has happened over the past 16 months. The EU has committed to cut down CO2 emissions by at least 40% by 2030 and the UK has made a legally binding target to be net zero emissions by 2050, meaning a whole systems approach needs to be managed by consumers and businesses alike.
Organisations of all sizes need to recognise the importance of sustainability and be clearly defi ned as responsible suppliers and employers, in order to attract clients and candidates.
According to HSBC’s Made for the Future Report, almost half of UK companies say sustainability is key to their growth plans and 66% plan to improve their internal practices.
It’s becoming a requirement to do business as well as a moral choice - Amnesty International’s Future of Humanity Survey in 2019 revealed that 41% of respondents felt that global warming was the most important issue facing the world. Almost nine in 10 (89%) of Millennials expect employers and suppliers to pe proactive around environmental responsibilities in the workplace, according to LinkedIn.
