CONTENTS Editor’s Voice Hello and welcome to the August/September issue of Tomorrow’s Care.

Since we published the last issue, a fair bit of societal, economic and political change has occurred. Prime Minister Boris Johnson will find himself out of a job in September, the economic outlook for the remainder of 2022 and well into 2023 looks grim, and there’s signs of civil unrest in the form of public sector pay protests.

How are these issues likely to impact the care industry in particular? Well should Liz Truss, the favourite to win the Conservative Party leadership contest, prove victorious, Rishi Sunak’s National Insurance rise to help fund Health and Social Care will be immediately scrapped. Whilst the tax rise has never been the most popular of policies, it remains to be seen where the money to support the industry will come from should its reversal take place. And with energy bills set to soar again in October and then again in January, already cash strapped businesses across the care industry are likely to feel the pinch even further. More financial support should reach those that need it most, but the exact details of new policies are unlikely to see the light of day until Johnson’s successor takes over – which many believe will be too late.

In this issue, we take a deep dive into Recruitment in the sector. It’s well known that the care industry has issues with recruitment at the moment. As Rob Finney, Chief Operating Officer at Tristone Healthcare, notes in his leading feature this month: “Regardless of the location, entry level, or type of role, businesses are crying out for good quality people across every region in the UK.” The answer, he believes, is to ensure everyone works together now to ensure it doesn’t become an issue that happens every year.

Safeguarding, Technology and Laundry make up our other three spotlight features this month, with a range of insight from across the industry.

Enjoy the issue! Sarah Robinson, Editor Ryan Lloyd, Editor
