improvement in cleaning quality and dispensers that remain in use 99% of the time.
Tork EasyCube is currently installed in more than 100 amusement parks, shopping centres, airports, office buildings and other facilities worldwide.
Society is adapting to our increased use of smartphones in the washroom. Hygiene standards are rising while an increasing number of restaurants, bars and hotels are creating ‘talking point washrooms’ to promote positive social media coverage.
Meanwhile, innovations have been introduced in Japan aimed at addressing the issues of people contaminating their phones in the washroom and losing them down the loo. Patent-pending ‘accessory trays’ are being installed in service station washrooms to provide a safe surface for visitors to rest their smartphones.
And Tokyo’s Narita Airport is providing smartphone ‘toilet rolls’ to help reduce the levels of bacteria on users’ devices. The rolls, which are supplied in the washrooms of the airport’s arrivals hall, bear a “Welcome to Japan” message and provide instructions on how to clean your phone.
At the same time, washroom providers are helping to counteract the smartphone user’s prolonged washroom visit by coming up with new ways of speeding up the washroom experience and avoiding logjams. For example, our new Tork PeakServe Continuous Hand Towel provides the visitor with a towel in just three seconds and caters for more than 2,000 guests per refill to avoid any breaks in service. This speeds up washroom throughput and avoids the queues that can form where hand dryers are installed, since even the fastest of these take 10-12 seconds to thoroughly dry the hands.
In little more than a decade the smartphone has changed all our habits – even our washroom ones. There are many ways in which smartphones are proving a force for good while any negatives – such as longer washroom visits and increased smartphone contamination – are being addressed.
It will be exciting to see how smartphones will evolve in the future to improve our lives still further – both in and out of the washroom.
