Welcoming a new addition to the ICE Co-Botics Family
It’s fair to say that adoption of autonomous cleaning equipment has been slow over the last 10 years, with only a few suppliers in the market. However, this has now dramatically picked up the pace over the last few years, with companies starting to understand the benefits that robotic cleaning can bring, and a whole host of robotics suppliers entering the market.
According to the Global B2B Floor Cleaning Robots Market Research Reports 2021, the global market is expected to grow by 16% between 2021 and 2027, and the UK market is forecast to be worth £105m by 2027.
It’s no secret that ICE has been leading the way in autonomous cleaning over the last decade, and has a wide range of robotic cleaning equipment suitable for a whole host of environments – but there’s always room for more!
We are very excited to announce that we have a new member soon to be joining the award-winning ICE Cobotics family – a compact 4-in-1 machine that sweeps, vacuums, scrubs, and dries.
The Phantas is a small machine with a 30cm cleaning width that literally cleans right up to edges and corners, guaranteeing complete cleanliness. It is highly efficient and can clean efficiently in tight spaces, narrow aisles, and even under tables!
What’s more, the machine is able to identify different types of flooring and then automatically adjust the cleaning mode required. Plus, the on-board technology is now so advanced that the machine can even map itself without any human interaction – a huge step forward, enabling quick and easy mapping of any cleaning area.
The real-time smart obstacle avoidance means the Phantas can sense obstacles such as trailing electric wires and avoid them, rather than passing over them.
It can also detect areas of extreme dirt and carry out autonomous spot cleaning. By cleaning only where needed, this dramatically improves efficiency (by up to four times) and reduces energy consumption significantly.
The machine can also be remotely controlled via an App which includes map editing, meaning that you can set up virtual walls or no-go areas all via the App. You can also

activate, pause, or stop a cleaning task, or schedule the cleaning start time, all remotely without having to touch the machine. Detailed reports are also available through the App for each machine that show the area cleaned, water used and remaining, and battery and consumable life remaining.
The Phantas can also be used with an optional service station that automatically charges the machine, and whilst on charge the water tanks are automatically emptied, cleaned, and refilled.
When considering introducing autonomous cleaning, we have found that the key to successful integration is to collaborate with the cleaning operatives onsite to ensure that the machines become part of the cleaning team and are not seen as a threat or a separate function. This requires fully involving the frontline operators so that they see the real value of the machines as collaborating with them, not replacing them.
In terms of training to ensure that cobots are used safely and efficiently, at ICE our training and installation programme is ever-evolving with the constant feedback we receive both from customers and ICE staff. We currently offer a three-part training plan covering everything from daily maintenance to mapping and safe operation.
Following this, operators can refer to our training and support packs that are available via our App and online training videos. We also offer top-up training on request, as well as ‘Train the Trainer’ sessions so any new staff can be trained to operate the machines effectively and efficiently.
