May 2022 saw the celebrated return of the Kimberly-Clark Professional Golden Service Awards, with the heroes of the cleaning industry honoured. At the ceremony on Thursday 26 May, held for the first time at the InterContinental London Park Lane, the industry came together to acknowledge their frontline cleaning operatives with pride to present the 19 much coveted Golden Service Awards.
Judged as always by The British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc), this year’s winners and highly commended have proved their outstanding commitment and excellence more than any other year since the launch of the biennial Golden Service Awards in 1991.
Stan Atkins, Chief Executive Officer at BICSc, said: “The quality of the entries in this edition of the Golden Service Awards was higher and more extraordinary than ever before. Innovation, the environment, employee wellbeing and not surprisingly, flexibility, lead the agenda.
“Despite the challenges of the pandemic there was a huge amount of focus on staff welfare, mental health and diversity, demonstrating that the evolution of the industry was not halted, but boosted, during the last two years of never-before-seen challenges.”
Resourcefulness, commitment, and bravery
Today, the awards are renowned as the ultimate accolade for cleaning teams in the UK and Ireland from a wide variety of sectors including healthcare, hospitality, retail, education and offices.
This year, the resourcefulness, commitment and bravery of our cleaning colleagues were acknowledged with a special new category called the ‘Going the extra mile’ award. It's been introduced to distinguish those who have delivered above and beyond during the COVID-19 pandemic, or having faced other challenges.
This special award went to Exclusive Services Group. Commenting on this inaugural victory, the judges said: “The PRIDE innovation and detailed understanding of just what diversity is makes Exclusive worthy winners. There is a real dedication to celebrating every member of staff, their background, and the lessons they can teach.”
