FOOD SAFETY & STEAM CLEANING The benefits of dry steam

OspreyDeepclean’s Thomas Stucken explains how dry steam cleaning technology can help companies achieve their sustainability goals.

Clean schools, offices, hotels, hospitals, and public buildings – not to mention food factories – are vital in maintaining a healthy population and vibrant community life.

Consumers are motivated to make environmentally- conscious, sustainable choices and this reflects in their buying behaviour. People want to align with brands that care about sustainability and strive to limit environmental impact. Get closer to meeting these expectations by adopting ‘green’ cleaning practices.

Don’t view sustainable cleaning as something to achieve in the future when affordable and effective technology is readily available. Introduce the best possible cleaning practices and show that your business is taking every measure now.

Consider the whole product life cycle

Materials, energy and water are used at many stages of a cleaning product’s ‘lifecycle’, from manufacture, through transport and storage, before it’s used for cleaning. Improving sustainability means making incremental improvements to make the product more sustainable.

To help, there’s a technique called ‘lifecycle analysis’ (LCA). LCA studies show that for most cleaning jobs, the key resources consumed are:

Raw Materials & Consumables Packaging Energy Water Consumption

OspreyDeepclean’s dry steam vapour (DSV) technology provides you with the best possible hygiene standards while drastically cutting energy and water consumption to offer an all-in-one solution for more sustainable cleaning.

Drastically reduce water consumption

with DSV As DSV cleaning needs just 1L of water to generate 1,600L of dry steam (in turn only requiring 5L/hour), you can reduce water consumption by over 95% almost instantaneously. This alone helps you take huge strides towards sustainable ambitions.

In practice, we’ve helped one giant confectionary producer save 6m litres of water annually. Another customer saves £1 per tonne of finished product in water costs alone after installing our belt sanitation units (BSU).

Stop chemical pollutants and

handled properly, wastewater still consumes significant energy to remedy and levies a high environmental cost.

One of the most significant advantages of DSV lies in the waste removal procedure, which is environmentally friendly and saves considerable time and money. Cleaning operatives can simply empty the waste tank when it fills and enjoy the peace of mind.

The science behind DSV technology

When combining DSV with validated technologies, you achieve the most effective, efficient and sustainable cleaning standards, without using chemicals. The process requires a small amount of cold tap water that gets super-heated, reaching temperatures up to 175°. Just 1L of water transforms into 1600L of small but powerful dry steam droplets.

The super-heating process vaporises residual moisture and generates dry steam, which delivers the best possible environmental hygiene standards in both wet and dry environments. These tiny dry droplets cover a far greater surface area than manual cleaning in a shorter time with greater effectiveness. It loosens dirt and grime that you can easily remove with OspreyDeepclean’s vacuum cleaners or microfibre cloths, leaving surfaces clean and sanitised.

Driving sustainability with DSV

DSV technology relies on super-heated dry steam that substitutes tonnes of hot water for small amounts of cold tap water. It produces no moisture, prevents cross-contamination and relies on no chemicals to achieve higher standards of environmental hygiene than any other cleaning technology.

Government research shows that UK businesses can save up to £23bn annually through the way they use energy and water. Financial rewards, unmatched environmental benefits and exceptional hygiene standards should drive home the transformational effects of DSV cleaning.

At OspreyDeepclean, we’ve dedicated 20 years to engineering the most sustainable and effective DSV technology. Tested in healthcare settings and relied on by hospitals, we’re striving to help businesses like yours have a positive environmental impact.
