In memoriam: Gill Hallsworth
Cleaning industry figures have paid tribute following the passing of Gill Hallsworth, a key figure in raising the profile of the industry, an esteemed honorary Fellow of the British Institute of Cleaning Science (FBICSc) and the author of A Cleaner’s Handbook.
Gill contributed significantly to the image of the cleaning industry and was Midlands BICSc region Chairman for several years. She coordinated study days at various venues that were regularly well-attended and offered training to many individuals in supervision techniques.
A Cleaner’s Handbook was a highly respected publication issued by Cresta Books.
Gill dedicated many years to providing services with the NHS, making substantial contributions to progress in the cleaning industry. She received a lifetime award in recognition of her exceptional commitment, dedication and achievements.
Gill's late husband, Michael, was instrumental in supporting her work, enabling Gill to devote herself entirely to her career in the cleaning industry.
Gill had recently been in private residential care and fell ill following a hospital stay and regrettably, she passed away.
The Chair of the British Cleaning Council (BCC), Delia Cannings, said: “Gill’s exceptional contributions to our industry will be fondly remembered, characterised by her conscientious and diligent approach. She was widely recognised as a person of great class and unwavering integrity. Our professional relationship and friendship extended over 45 years.
“I have fond memories that go back to galvanised buckets and wooden stales. Gill will always hold a place of respect in my life, as well as in the lives of many others, I am sure.
“Gill was truly an extraordinary individual whose legacy will live on through her remarkable contributions to the cleaning industry and the lives she touched. May she indeed find eternal peace and be joyfully reunited with her beloved Michael.”
BICSc former Group CEO, Stan Atkins, added that Gill had been a ‘stalwart’ of the Midlands region as Chairman and she was an honorary Fellow of the British Institute of Cleaning Science.

Hawsons advises Killis and
MotorScrubber on strategic demerger Hawsons, a leading independent advisory firm, has advised on the successful demerger of Killis and MotorScrubber.
The move separates two well-established names in the commercial cleaning equipment sector, enabling each to accelerate its growth strategy with renewed focus.
The transaction was led by Peter Wilmer, Senior Partner and Head of Corporate Finance, supported by Tax Partner Stephen Charles. The Hawsons team worked closely with Imre Killi, CEO of MotorScrubber, and Tibor Killi, Managing Director of Killis, to ensure the process was carefully managed and strategically sound. Wake Smith Solicitors provided legal advice on the transaction.
Peter said: “Helping two strong, family-led businesses take this important step was a privilege. The decision to demerge was strategic, not reactive – and both MotorScrubber and Killis are well-positioned to thrive independently.”
Imre Killi commented: “This move allows us to double down on innovation and scale our manufacturing to meet global demand. With the launch of our new DRYFT brand, we’re ready to lead

the next chapter in high-performance cleaning technology.”
For MotorScrubber, the demerger marks a significant shift toward product innovation and international scale-up in manufacturing. For Killis, it allows greater investment in its core strength – specialist distribution – including continued growth of its Genius product line.
Tibor Killi added: “This marks an exciting new chapter for Killis. By expanding our distribution and service network, we are strengthening our ability to deliver exceptional service to our customers and partners. At the same time, we remain committed to the development of our new brand, Genius, through which we will introduce the most innovative range of products to the cleaning and hospitality industry.”
With the UK commercial cleaning equipment market now exceeding £1.6bn annually, the strategic demerger gives both businesses the clarity and independence to strengthen their positions in a fast-evolving sector.
