SUSTAINABILITY: PRODUCT FOCUS
Doing what it says on the tin, the natural way
Prochem explains why its Natural range is the perfect choice.
If the adage ‘it does what it says on the tin’ holds true then at least one solution meeting ever-growing demand from professional housekeepers for ‘eco’ cleaning is well named. Prochem’s ‘Natural’ range of six high performance, environmentally-safe carpet, upholstery and multi-surface cleaning and restoration products is not only well-named.
It includes solutions passed and recommended by the Woolsafe Organisation for use on wool and wool-rich carpets, and most hotels, banqueting venues, restaurants and public houses are fitted with carpets made from wool.
Wool is a sustainable material that can be damaged by strong chemistry; it demands an understanding of which chemical cleaning processes are most responsible and effective on it while not actually damaging or degrading its fibres.
Wool or wool-rich can be damaged by such strong chemistry as mentioned and, by using not only a WoolSafe- approved product, but also a product that contains ingredients that are naturally sustainable, not only is the clean carried out but the fibres and the carpet are protected.
The Natural range includes six environmentally-safe carpet, upholstery and multi-surface cleaning and restoration products, all with biodegradable eco-surfactant formulations, natural signature eco-fragrances, packaged in 100% recycled, post-consumer bottles.
Four Natural products are WoolSafe-approved for carpet, spearheaded by E717 Natural Carpet & Upholstery Prespray, a pretreatment for soiled carpets, upholstery and rugs that unlock sticky particles from the fibres, allowing them to be rinsed away easily using an extraction machine, leaving a residue-free finish.
The above-mentioned extraction rinse can either be made with E772 Natural Carpet Cleaner or E157 Natural Carpet Rinse, both containing eco-polymer and encapsulation properties leaving a natural fragrance of lemongrass and herbal aroma.
Spots and spills can be dealt with by E343 Natural Carpet Spotter, removing spills via a phosphate-free, polymer encapsulation technology.
The range is completed by E247 Natural Carpet Deodoriser and E457 Natural Multi Surface floor Cleaner. With its lavender, orange and peppermint fragrance, the first helps deal with offensive odours such as urine and food spoilage, and can be post-sprayed on a cleaned carpet or used as a treatment to freshen the flooring.
The floor cleaner is a low pH detergent that can be used to clean every wet-cleanable flooring type, such as vinyl,

limestone, terrazzo, marble, granite and other natural material safely.
Prochem’s Natural range can cover virtually every carpet, floor and fabric cleaning requirement that today’s housekeeping manager is dealt while also helping maintain a biodegradable, sustainable environment for end users.
Prochem is regularly contacted by prospective clients, ranging from hotels to contract cleaning companies wanting to use sustainable cleaning products on their contracts. These enquiries are often driven by a demand for an eco-friendly alternative to the day-to-day chemicals found on the market. Using sustainable ingredients not only cleans effectively, but helps promote indoor air quality, reducing customer concerns over asthma, dust mites, pet dander and other allergens.
Within both residential and domestic marketplaces, this issue of sustainable cleaning is gathering serious momentum, says Prochem Head of Sales & Training, Phil Jones. He commented: “More householders are requesting that cleaning contractors use products that help to promote healthier living spaces, containing plant-based detergents free from harmful chemicals and artificial additives. This is particularly the case with mothers of young children who raise their concern before they have their carpets or floors cleaned.
“Eco-friendly cleaning also extends the life of a carpet. Gentle cleaning techniques mean less wear and tear and minimal residue, preventing rapid re-soiling, decreasing cleaning turnover.”
Prochem clearly takes the subject seriously. The Natural range is not only fully bio-degradable, but its packaging is also fully recyclable.
Phil added: “Corporate procurement managers are under pressure to meet their employers’ sustainability targets. On one occasion a major cleaning company was asked to quote for a public sector contract for large office buildings. The only stipulation that the contract manager gave was that the products to be used had to be as sustainable and biodegradable as possible.
“The contractor was being encouraged by other contractors quoting for the job not to go for natural, biodegradable products due to their low soil breaking capability. After some trials that satisfactorily proved the cost- and performance-effectiveness of our solutions, that contractor went back and won the job.”
