GATWICK AIRPORT CLAIMS TOP PRIZE AT LOO OF THE YEAR


AWARDS Gatwick Airport, the world’s busiest single runway airport was awarded the prestigious Overall Tork Loo of the Year Award Trophy at the Loo of the Year Awards annual presentation event, held on Friday 2nd December.


This is the first time in the Awards’ twenty-nine-year history that an airport has achieved the top award and was in recognition of Gatwick being awarded Platinum Awards for every one of their thirteen entries, which included toilets for all types of users including Changing Places toilets. Gatwick was also awarded the UK and Ireland Market Sector Award for Transport.


Awards Managing Director, Mike Bone, said: “Gatwick Airport first entered Loo of the Year Awards in 2015 with two entries in the South Terminal and won the National Category Award for England in the Airports Category

and the UK and Ireland Market Sector Award for Transport.


“All of their 2016 entries were exceptionally clean and well maintained. Gatwick work closely with their cleaning contractor ISS to ensure that the highest toilet cleaning standards are maintained, despite coping with the needs of more than forty million passengers each year.”


Baba Sechan, an employee of Birmingham’s leading cleaning company We Clean, became the first person to be awarded the Attendant of the Year Awards Individual Attendant Trophy for the second time. Baba was previously presented with this award in the 2015 Attendant of the Year Awards. JD Wetherspoon was presented with the In-House Cleaning Team Trophy and City Facility Management, who clean Asda Stores, were presented with the External Contractor Team Trophy.


Other major UK and Ireland Trophy Winners included Asda, Bluewater Shopping Centre, Buttercrane Shopping Centre Newry, Heathrow Airport, intu, Mid & East Antrim Borough Council, Oxford City


Council, Richmond Royal Park and J D Wetherspoon. The winners were selected from entries in sixty categories across all market sectors.


Nearly four hundred guests from throughout the UK, including representatives from leading cleaning and FM companies, attended the special Awards Presentation Event at the four-star St Johns Hotel in Solihull. Peter Piper provided comedy as the excellent after-lunch entertainment and guests enjoyed the supplier exhibition that forms part of the annual event.


The 2016 Awards were run in association with Headline Sponsor Tork, and Associate Sponsors Clos- o-Mat and Dolphin Solutions. Leading suppliers; Danfo, Evolve Security and Willings Services supported this year’s Awards.
