REGULAR COMPETITION DRIVES SUCCESS Whether basking in success in Barcelona, revelling in victory in Rome or, who knows, maybe one

day parading prizes in Paris, knowing you are the best in your field is an attractive incentive to deliver ever higher quality services, products and relationships. Environment Media Group, organisers of

the European Cleaning & Hygiene Awards, invite you to find your competitive edge and join them in November 2017 to showcase the best the European cleaning and hygiene industry has to offer.

Whether it’s nature or nurture, competition is part of our lives from an early age. Bragging rights in the playground meant a great deal – remember playing marbles or how long it took to complete the latest computer game? Competition sets and raises standards, and drives innovation. Why else would children take to oven-baking conkers or concocting wonderful solutions to coat them in before commencing battle?

Growing up, many of us never really lose that competitive edge and often it’s that competition that spurs us on to greater things. We learn to take the knocks – those contracts we didn’t win – and improve our offer until it meets the clients’ needs.

SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST The relative lack of barriers to entry mean that the cleaning industry is an open field for new entrants. The sheer volume of companies involved means competition for business is a constant. This has its disadvantages, but also means the sector is a hotbed for entrepreneurialism and innovation as people look to find their niche or set themselves apart from the competition. It’s Darwinism in action; the survival of the fittest.

Award schemes help to foster this competitiveness, drive up quality and ultimately improve results for customers, meaning more successful and sustainable businesses for those doing it right.

award was the way forward. It is much like in football, where winning the Premier League is great, but winning the Champions League is the ultimate accolade. The success of the inaugural awards in Barcelona last September shows that we are on to something.

BIGGER AND BETTER We’re not resting on our laurels though. Our own competitive streak means

we want to see the 2017 awards be even bigger and better. Across Europe, the industry is worth €35.7billion and employs millions of people. That means there’s a tremendous amount to showcase and celebrate. Entries for the awards are welcomed from building service contractors, distributors, facilities managers, manufacturers and individuals. If you’re doing something special in the cleaning and hygiene sector we want to hear from you. And if you didn’t win last year, this could be your time to shine. But if you did win, we bet you’d like to do it again.

Entries are now open and there’s a wide range of categories, reflecting the diversity of the industry. So, whether you’re developing the latest technology, implementing an innovative training scheme or driving the sustainability agenda, there’s something for you.
