10 QUESTIONS
10 QUESTIONS WITH... STUART FULLERTON
Each month we ask a cleaning industry professional the Tomorrow’s Cleaning 10 Questions. This month, we chatted to Stuart Fullerton, General Manager at Alex Reid.
Q5
HOW WOULD YOU IMPROVE THE CLEANING INDUSTRY?
The industry as a whole would benefit from an improvement in competency. If we can improve technical expertise and skills across the board for our customers, we can provide them with added value to pass on to their customers by way of an even better level of service and improved quality of cleaning.

Q3 Q4
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB? My first job was in the
Accounts Department of an Accident & Repair Centre.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE CLEANING INDUSTRY?
I was presented with a great opportunity to move out of practise and into industry, offering me new challenges and the chance to fully utilise the skills that I learned working with numerous clients and their businesses over the years.
WHICH THREE WORDS DESCRIBE YOUR
PERSONALITY? Ambitious, approachable and reliable.
IF YOU COULD VISIT ONE PLACE IN THE WORLD,
WHERE WOULD YOU GO AND WHY? Peru, specifically Machu Picchu. I love history and in particular ancient cultures and civilisations. I am intrigued with how the Incas built their citadel in the Andes mountains and how they sustained life there in such a remote location.

IF AN INTERN WERE TO START TOMORROW,
WHAT’S THE ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE THEM? Be prepared to work hard and have an open mind. The environment in which we work is constantly changing and any new starter needs to be adaptable and challenge boundaries.
IF YOU WON THE LOTTERY TOMORROW, HOW WOULD
YOU SPEND YOUR FORTUNE? I would donate to charity in order to provide those less fortunate than I with
the tools and opportunities to educate themselves, earn money and succeed in life. I would invest the remainder.
Q8
IF YOU COULD HOST A DINNER PARTY AND INVITE
ANY THREE PEOPLE, DEAD OR ALIVE, WHO WOULD THEY BE AND WHY? Nick Garthwaite, Managing Director at Christeyns, because he is a great colleague and would be the life and soul of any party. Richard Branson, an inspiration to all in succeeding in business. And thirdly, comedian Michael McIntyre to add some humour.
Q9
WHAT, DO YOU THINK, IS THE FUTURE OF THE
CLEANING INDUSTRY? I believe the future of the industry lies in moving away from traditional methods towards innovation, from dry cleaning to wet cleaning. The industry is now more about expertise rather than just cleaning and we need people who can impart this knowledge to others. The future is also about creating a sustainable environment through technological innovation.
Dave Aveyard, Operations Director at Christeyns, asks:
Q10
WHAT HAS POSED THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE IN
YOUR CAREER SO FAR? It has to be the change from working in an accountancy practise to industry. I’ve gone from being a business adviser on the outside looking in, to now being at the helm looking out. I’m a ‘hands on’ leader and now I have the opportunity to get things done rather than just advising clients to do it.
