From humble beginnings in 2013 with four employees from non-profit organisation East London Business Alliance, Principle Windows – the window cleaning division of Principle Cleaning Services – now has a team of 100 who clean the windows of some of London’s most prestigious and iconic high-rise buildings.
Its vision was always to create the most highly rewarded team in the industry with wellbeing and personal development allowances, annual bonuses, holistic and individual health assessments, and access to mental health resources.
The division is IRATA accredited and has a group of IRATA- trained abseilers, a five-strong management team, a technical lead, and full-time safety and administrative support. The team is led by Managing Director, David Saville, an industry veteran and executive committee member of the Federation of Window Cleaners (FWC). He is supported by a senior management team equipped with significant experience and multiple qualifications.
In 2019 Principle Windows launched a Centre of Excellence; and has developed its own window cleaning monitoring software called Drop Marking. This technology enables the window cleaning teams to accurately record how long each drop takes, and provides a real time record of the progress of scheduled cleans. All information is instantly uploaded to each client’s bespoke ‘YourPrinciple’ online platform, which is accessible to both parties. Trends can be analysed including weather, equipment use, cleaning productivity, near miss reporting, anything which occurs regularly and can be logged on a handheld unit, with real time data stored and collated.
Principle Windows has set targets to measure and reduce its vertical cleaning carbon footprint on a client site-specific basis. Its carbon footprint is low, it uses relatively few materials, and it is committed to local employment and sustainable procurement.
After almost 10 years of success in the Capital, Principle Windows is planning to extend its geographical reach into the Home Counties, and even beyond.
