Rubbermaid Commercial Products’ (RCP) Love Sustainability Journey – launched in August 2022 – is a commitment to becoming as sustainable as possible, supporting other businesses in taking steps to act sustainably too.


The Journey is award-worthy for the tangible contribution it makes as an antidote to ‘greenwashing’, giving structure, depth, and substance to making incremental sustainability gains, helping protect the planet against a backdrop of commercial considerations and challenges.


It’s an initiative that’s sorely needed: 59% of businesses claim to have internal sustainability initiatives in place. Pressured by customers and staff into being demonstrably ‘green’, without transparency and clear definitions of ‘green’, confusion about which practices are actually sustainable can frustrate both businesses and consumers.


Transparent and measurable, the Journey maps a path across five key areas – Products, Certification and Innovation, Packaging, Operations, Culture and Education.


Key targets that the organisation holds itself accountable against – in line with parent company Newell Brands – include a 2025 target for 100% of direct-sourced paper-based packaging to come from certified, verified, or recycled sources. Reducing waste to landfill by 90% is another ambitious Newell Brands 2025 target, which RCP plans to support at its operations locations.


These tangible goals are underscored by RCP‘s Culture and Education Journey target to hold itself to account by issuing its first Sustainability Annual Report in 2023.


Dedicated to being part of a concerted sustainability effort across the business world not just through its products, but through vital education and sustainability tools, the Love Sustainability Journey is backed by resources designed to benefit businesses, including:


• Love Recycling: supporting partners and customers with market intelligence, insights and case studies since 2020.


• A recycling audit tool that helps businesses uncover savings through strategic recycling programmes.





Love to Learn free online training modules to help businesses achieve sustainability goals.


• Case studies businesses can learn from, including insights such as DPD benefitting from 27% cost savings when it introduced Slim Jim Recycling Stations across its depot locations.
