BBC to re-procure Europe’s second largest FM contract
The BBC is re-procuring one of the biggest and most prestigious Total Facilities Management contract opportunities in Europe and has announced the long-list of participants who will proceed to the first dialogue stage of the re-procurement.
The BBC has a portfolio of approximately 150 sites spanning across the UK. The FM contract will include iconic broadcast buildings such as the new Broadcasting House in London, MediaCity UK in Salford and Pacific Quay in Glasgow and was advertised in September last year via an Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) notice. The BBC has chosen to take the two-stage competitive dialogue route to ensure best value for money for both the corporation and the license fee payer.
The successful participants through to the first stage of dialogue are Babcock Group, Balfour Beatty, Interserve, JCI, MITIE, and Sodexo. This stage will last until April this year; thereafter they will shortlist for a second dialogue stage and final tenders.
The project is being headed up by Lucy Dawson, Project Director, who commented: “This is a fantastic opportunity for us to take the BBC into the next generation of outsourcing. A chance for us to reflect the BBC’s new operating model and promote flexible and new ways of working across the estate to enable creativity and encourage collaboration whilst achieving value for money to the license fee payer.”

Facilities Show moves to London
UBM Live has announced that the UK-based Protection & Management Series — including Facilities Show — will move from Birmingham’s NEC to ExCeL London in June 2014. The decision comes at the end of a 12 month period of research and consultation with stakeholders across all communities, which resulted in overwhelming support for a move to London in 2014. The research concluded that re-locating to the UK capital would ensure the events would continue to be easily accessible for existing visitors as

well as allowing the series to take advantage of London’s status as a global business destination to attract even greater numbers of international attendees.
Leading figures across all industry sectors have leant their support for the move with the British Security Industry Association (BSIA); Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH); Fire Industry Association (FIA) and British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) confirming exclusive support for the events.

FM plays a vital function in offices, retail centres, industrial buildings, schools and hospitals across the world, it is important that the practitioners, suppliers and services supporting this industry are recognised and supported. Facilities Show does a great job of bringing this dynamic industry together each year and a London location for this core event is a positive step in helping the industry to reach key decision- makers, business leaders and end-users not just in the UK but internationally.”
Facilities Show 2013 will take place at the NEC in Birmingham from 14th- 16th May this year and registration for the show is now open.
