As the current health and safety reform agenda gathers pace, an update on progress, including the implementation of the Löfstedt report and the early experiences of Fee for Intervention (FFI), will be highlighted at Health & Safety South, taking place on 12th–13th March at Sandown Park Racecourse.


Outlining some of the most important developments in the safety sector and opening the free conference program (organised in conjunction with the British Safety Council) will be a presentation entitled ‘Current Developments on the Reform Agenda’. Delivered by Philip White, Chief Inspector of the Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) Construction Division, the presentation will also make particular reference to the current health and safety challenges in the construction industry, including the proposed revision of the Construction Design and


Management (CDM) Regulatory package and HSE’s future priorities for the industry.


Something new for this year’s event is the Safety Dialogue Live Panel which will take place on both days of the event. The panel offers visitors the opportunity to engage with live debates surrounding current issues, and this year the panel of experts will focus on the issues surrounding Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) and specifically, Face Fit testing for masks. The panel includes recognised experts such as Frank Angear of the British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF) and Alan McArthur of 3M Safety Solutions.


Additionally, Health Risks at Work and their Champions Workshop will also be running throughout the two- day event. This workshop will form part of the Safety Dialogue space and will give visitors the chance to expand their knowledge, network


Now in its seventh year, Health & Safety South returns to Sandown Park in Surrey next month. We take a look at what’s on for those looking to get


with their local Safety Groups and also give them the opportunity to volunteer to become a Health Risks at Work Champion.


As well as the British Safety Council conference program there are other, more practical, seminars taking place across the two days. Visitors will be able to see vendors and event partners such as 3M host practical seminars. 3M has two seminars, the first focuses on personal protective equipment (PPE) compatibility and the challenges faced when multiple items of PPE are worn. The second addresses ‘The Science of Fit’: evaluating the interaction between people and PPE products and ways to improve design, fit, comfort and productivity.
