Mapei has recently hosted a FeRFA Apprenticeship training session in which apprentices were given an introduction to resin flooring at their training facilities in Halesowen, which covered two modules: ‘Introduction to In Situ Resin Flooring’ and ‘Work Practice and Project Planning’. The course leads to an NVQ Level 2 Diploma.

Mapei provided an ideal setting for the course, having developed a wide selection of technologically advanced resin flooring systems. Mapei’s Mapefloor range consists of full product systems including waterproof membranes, primers, multi-layered coatings and quartz systems with a wide range of colours and wax finishes.

Terry Foxley, the Apprenticeship Tutor, commented: “The assistance we get from member companies in hosting these sessions is invaluable and the facilities provided by Mapei have been excellent and make it a great learning experience for our apprentices.”

Mapei hope to continue its partnership with FeRFA, working alongside the proactive professional body to promote resin flooring and its advantages.

This month, our resident Flooring PR expert and columnist explains why it pays to plan – making an example of David Cameron. God save the PM!

KERAKOLL SELECTED FOR PRIVATE DEVELOPMENT

The hallway where H40 Eco Marmorex was used to fix Nero Marquina and Carrera marble

If anything, David Cameron's recent interview with David Letterman shows (pardon the pun) that even the best communicators can sometimes get it wrong. Thankfully, David was able to pull it back by engaging with the audience by delivering some key messages which he knew were currently trending in the US – namely, the use of political TV advertising.

But what David’s (slightly embarrassing) interview also shows is that rushing into a promotional situation without fully exploring the potential obstacles, can not only back fire in a huge and public way, but also stops you from spotting the opportunities that can be taken advantage of.

In David Cameron's case he should have known the style of the interviewer and planned accordingly. What was it that Buechner said? "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail."

While David was able to use his quick thinking to bounce back before the end of the show, there have been too many brands that haven't simply due to bad planning! So, if you're thinking of launching a promotion for the world to see, make sure you think about all the obstacles and opportunities. Did David Cameron really need to go on the David Letterman show to get his message across? Personally, I could think of better (and safer!) channels he could have used...

heating in all four of the property’s bathrooms. This product is an extra fast setting single component levelling compound which is fibre reinforced to allow it to flex without cracking.

The adhesive chosen for use on wall and floor areas was H40 Eco Marmorex, which

has a high level of hydraulicity meaning that it locks in the mixing water and thereby stops stains from forming on the tile surface. It can be used to lay the most delicate marbles and natural stones, making it perfect for the main entrance floor which was tiled in polished Nero Marquina and Carrera

Marble. The tiles were grouted throughout using Fugabella Eco Porcelana 0-5, chosen for its low VOC emissions and lack of impact on the air quality in the building.
