Te funeral over, what we couldn’t have foreseen was that the union would call a further strike which would, once again, make travelling to attend the Direct Commerce Awards on our ‘new’ date impossible for the vast majority of our participants. We were speechless.
But, on the basis that, if you don’t at first succeed, try, try and try again, we worked with the venue to move to yet another date. Mercifully this time, it was just a few weeks ahead and we anxiously awaited further announcements from the union, which is bound by law to give a minimum of 14 days’ notice of strike action. Only when the deadline had passed for an announcement which would impact our date, could we proceed swiftly and with certainty, with the task of letting everyone know.
Of course, with each change of date, we had to reconfirm or replace the MC, the celebrity presenter, our on-site staffing, as well as make contact with all of the shortlisted entrants, not to mention our Judges and sponsors. As the date changes also

affected the co-located DCA Annual Summit by day, there were also countless speakers, delegates and sponsors to get on board, each time.
BUT we got there and, after such a long and gruelling time in the planning, were able to welcome everyone to celebrate the 2021 performance of some truly awesome businesses. We may have been a few months later than originally planned but we were finally able to announce the winners and toast some exceptional achievements. We were also able to support our chosen charity Te Pink Ribbon Foundation, thanks to the generous donations of prizes and to guests who pledged support on the night.
