04 NET ZERO:

“Net Zero” is like a balance – it happens when the amount of greenhouse gases we put into the atmosphere is the same as the amount we take out. This balance prevents the addition of more gases that contribute to global warming. In the UK, the government has set a goal to reach “net zero” emissions by 2050.

Net zero is important in preventing the buildup of gases like carbon and methane, which contributes towards global warming.

All business activity generates greenhouse gas emissions which means that organisations will need to take steps to reduce their carbon emissions as much as possible before considering ‘offsetting’ activities such as tree planting or using carbon credits.

At Lockhart, we’re serious about reaching net zero by 2050. As part of the global Bunzl group, we have set goals that follow scientific guidelines to enhance carbon efficiency by 2025 and 2030. We are already using 100% renewable energy to light and heat our operating facilities, and we are encouraging the use of electric vehicles in our fleet. As a group, we are working towards ensuring that 79% of our supply chain is also committed to these science-based goals.
