34 New module streamlines flow chemistry automation and data logging

Vapourtec has launched a Reaction Controller and Datalogger Module designed to simplify the automation and monitoring of flow chemistry processes - particularly when using equipment from multiple vendors.

Compatible with a wide range of third-party pumps, recirculators, flow meters, sensors, and balances, the module extends Vapourtec’s automation platform into pilot and production environments. Researchers and process chemists can now streamline reaction control and centralise data logging without the need for time-consuming system reconfiguration or manual data entry.

The module offers flexible control of liquid and gas delivery systems via serial or analogue interfaces, and switching for valves and flow devices. It supports precise monitoring of flow rates, pressure, temperature (via PT100 sensors and thermocouples), and mass using a broad array of standard laboratory equipment.

“Whether you’re automating a single experiment or managing a sequence of reactions, this module helps improve accuracy, reproducibility and safety,” said Duncan Guthrie, Managing Director of Vapourtec. “It also removes the hassle of reprogramming and manual data handling, freeing up valuable time for analysis and process optimisation.”

The Reaction Controller and Datalogger is ideal for labs and process development settings looking to integrate diverse hardware into cohesive, automated workflows. More information online: ilmt.co/PL/6R0o

64753pr@reply-direct.com Optimising liquid batching with precision flow measurement

Titan Enterprises shares practical insights to help engineers and operators tackle the complexities of precision liquid batching for accurate, repeatable results and efficient process control.

At first glance, metering batches of liquid might appear simple - install a flowmeter, connect a control instrument, wire in a valve, enter the volume, and dispense. Yet in real-world applications, a host of factors can affect precision and repeatability, making liquid batching far more demanding than it seems.

Modern processing systems require highly accurate flow measurement, whether adding water to food mixers, dispensing flavourings to beverages, or handling aggressive chemicals. Even small inconsistencies in system design can lead to costly inaccuracies and process disruption.

For batching applications, repeatability is key - ensuring the correct volume is dispensed every time. Maintaining stable process conditions helps, but it’s not always possible. Temperature fluctuations can alter viscosity and volumetric flow, while changing feed tank levels can affect dispensing rates. To address this, batching systems should be designed to minimise as many variables as possible within a reasonable budget, selecting flow meters, pumps, and valves that can handle any necessary adjustments.

Titan’s NSF-Approved Beverage Flowmeter is one example of a solution tailored for the drinks market. Known for its reliability and repeatability, this low-cost device is widely used in applications ranging from beverage production lines to self-pour beer walls in bars and restaurants.

Typical batch flow measurement applications include juice processing, where precise metering of water, flavourings, and sweeteners ensures product consistency. In beer dispensing systems, flowmeters monitor and control pours, preventing waste and maintaining profitability. In bottling operations, flow switches and meters detect flow loss and manage critical functions like CO2

and refrigerant protection.

Key considerations for effective batching systems include maintaining hydraulic stability, avoiding pulsating flows, ensuring stable conditions, and selecting appropriately calibrated equipment. The correct placement of flowmeters, understanding resolution needs, and using fast-acting valves or overrun compensation software further enhance batching precision. By addressing these factors at the design stage and selecting fit-for-purpose metering technology, engineers can optimise process performance and achieve dependable, high-accuracy liquid batching. 64469pr@reply-direct.com High-performance centrifuges with sustainable cooling

Thermo Fisher Scientific has introduced its most sustainable large-capacity and superspeed centrifuges to date, designed to support reliable sample preparation while reducing environmental impact. The new Thermo Scientific™ Cryofuge™, BIOS, and LYNX centrifuge lines feature GreenCool™ Technology – a next-generation natural refrigerant system with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of just 1, complying with EU and US EPA F-gas regulations.

These centrifuges offer up to 15% energy savings compared to previous models and are manufactured at Thermo Fisher’s zero-waste site in Osterode am Harz, Germany, which runs entirely on renewable energy.

With lighter, quieter builds and advanced temperature control, the new centrifuges provide high-performance, energy-efficient sample processing for blood banking, bioprocessing, and life science research. Users can expect precise, reproducible separations with improved ergonomics and intuitive interfaces, all while supporting greener lab operations.

The Cryofuge 8 and 16 models are tailored for blood banking, combining strong sample security with improved sustainability. BIOS centrifuges deliver high-throughput performance for large-volume bioprocessing applications, while LYNX 4000 and 6000 superspeed models ensure reliable results for temperature-sensitive samples in complex research workflows.

“As the leader in large-capacity and superspeed centrifugation, we’re proud to offer sustainable solutions without compromising quality or reliability,” said Thomas Doerdelmann, VP and GM at Thermo Fisher Scientific.

These models replace the previous Sorvall line and represent a shift toward environmentally conscious sample processing across labs and production facilities. More information online: ilmt.co/PL/JdvW
