Laboratory Products 53 SARS-CoV-2 IgM Antibody Test Launched in Countries Accepting CE Mark

Beckman Coulter, a clinical diagnostics leader, has announced the launch of its Access SARS-CoV-2 Immunoglobulin M (IgM) assay in countries accepting the CE Mark. The new IgM antibody test demonstrated 99.9% specificity with 1,400 negative samples and 100% sensitivity at >18 days post symptom onset and post positive PCR. Beckman Coulter’s IgM assay is part of a full suite of testing solutions the company is developing to inform clinical and public health decision making during the COVID-19 pandemic. Beckman Coulter is also developing a SARS-CoV-2 antigen test and quantitative IgG assay. Beckman Coulter’s antibody assays and its other planned SARS-CoV-2 offerings run on the organisation’s award-winning immunoassay analysers, including the DxI 800 high-throughput analyser, which is capable of processing 200 samples per hour.

The full suite of testing solutions, including the IgM and IgG assays currently available and the antigen and quantitative IgG assay under development, provide valuable information in clinical decision making for patients suffering from COVID-19. The company developed separate SARS-CoV-2 IgM and SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibody assays to help clinicians determine a patient’s immune status in response to a recent or past infection. The Beckman Coulter IgM assay detects antibodies that may emerge earlier in the course of infection and then dissipate, while the IgG test detects antibodies associated with the longer-term immune response. Both IgM and IgG assays can identify antibodies in asymptomatic individuals. Since each person’s seroconversion process is different, the two tests can be used together to provide the most accurate view of their immune response.

Around the world, diagnostic labs are under immense pressure to be more efficient when it comes to meeting testing demands. Beckman Coulter’s assays can be performed in automated or high-throughput immunoassay formats. The Access SARS-CoV-2 IgM test can also be run on Beckman Coulter’s Access 2 analyser, a compact, table-top analyser enabling high-quality serology testing to be carried out in small hospitals and clinics. Additionally, this test seamlessly integrates into laboratory workflows, making it easy to add serology testing to routine blood tests performed during inpatient and wellness testing.

Able to deliver more than 15 million tests each month, the company can meet its customers’ global demands, including more than 16,000 immunoassay analysers worldwide. More information online: ilmt.co/PL/j2Dv

New App to Enhance Life Science Research for Academic Labs Launched

A-LabInsider has created an application that lists all academic life science labs in Europe with an intelligence to filter through them to make it easier for small and medium biotech companies to discover labs and do business with them. The concept was to create a central place for biotech SMEs to find academic labs through the content of available websites and scientific literature the labs have produced, as well as to keep an eye on the new labs, gain lead generation and market intelligence to get an overview and benchmark performance of each lab to figure out which lab is the best fit.

A-LabInsider equips companies with the latest data, guides what to do with it, and how to apply it to achieve best possible results. By doing those things, the app is the ‘market watch’ on academic life science labs and will always be updated with a new information arising daily.

With the abundance of academic labs being twice as much as biotech SMEs, it has been very time-consuming and tedious to search manually for the information on the websites and in scientific literature. Through the app, SMEs can make their decision about the right labs through the literature the labs have produced, and gain an overview and benchmarking of their performance in any topic. With the ever-growing need for convenient and easily accessible information, A-LabInsider takes away the discovery problem from biotech SMEs and even more makes it easier to follow up with those that are relevant.

The app will positively affect how both sides connect and boost businesses of each other. It also provides SMEs with the low-cost functions that are normally provided to enterprises, but at a more reasonable and affordable price.

The situation with academic life science labs is paradoxical, by number they are twice as many as biotech companies, while by revenue generated from them to biotech companies represent only

a quarter. Their budget is often similar to small biotech companies, however difficulty to be discovered represent the main reason for this phenomena. A-LabInsider solves this problem by pouring more innovation developed in biotech companies to academic labs, thus making good for small businesses and publicly funded research groups so they can benefit from latest innovations.

53823pr@reply-direct.com Standalone Module for Low Temperature Flow Chemistry

The Cold Coil II™ Flow Reactor Module from Uniqsis is designed to provide a flexible, entry-level solution for low temperature flow chemistry applications. Used in conjunction with an external thermoregulation circulator the Cold Coil II™ is able to maintain stable temperatures between -78°C and +150°C for extended periods of time. A glass cover is provided with the Cold Coil II™ to eliminate convective effects within fume cupboards. A vacuum jacketed glass cover is also available and is recommended for use with the device at very low temperatures.

The Cold Coil II™ is compatible with all Uniqsis coil reactors, from 2.0ml up to 60 ml capacity. A proprietary clamping mechanism holds the coil reactor firmly in place and ensures optimal thermal contact whilst allowing coil reactors to be easily interchanged.

The Cold Coil II can be simply converted into a photoreactor by coupling with a Uniqsis PhotoSyn high power LED light unit. An optional GSM Glass Static Mixer chip module allows the Cold Coil II to be used as a rapid mixing device before flowing directly into a coil reactor as an incubator module.

The Cold Coil II is also compatible with the Uniqsis HotColumn multiple column reactor adaptor for packed bed applications. To ensure accurate remote measurement of the Cold Coil II reactor temperature an optional internal temperature probe can be connected directly via RS232C.
