Pumps, Valves & Liquid Handling Versatile Pipettes Provide Faster Production of Kits for the Next Generation of Scientists
Biotechnology education company Edvotek is dedicated to bringing high technology sciences to the classroom, helping future scientists to learn about the rapidly evolving biotechnology industry. The company uses Integra Biosciences’ pipettes to produce training kits for teachers, helping them to share the latest exciting scientific developments with their students. Thomas Cynkar, Vice President of Manufacturing at Edvotek, explained: “If teachers don’t have access to the equipment and kits necessary to teach children about the latest scientific discoveries, this could negatively affect the education of those wanting to pursue a career in science. Edvotek was created to address this issue, and was actually the first company to make biotechnology products exclusively for high schools, colleges and middle schools.”
“We acquired our first VOYAGER adjustable tip spacing pipette in 2017, and immediately noticed a world of difference in terms of speed and accuracy for dispensing reagents. As we’ve grown as a company and our kits have become more popular, we’ve gone from pipetting a couple of hundred samples a week to processing thousands of tubes. Our VOYAGER pipettes make the whole process so much faster and more accurate, and dramatically increase our throughput. It’s so easy to process numerous tubes in racks with different spacing - and with single handed operation - which we simply couldn’t do with our previous pipettes. We have much more confidence in the pipetting performance, helping to maintain the quality of our kits, and have more than doubled the speed with which we’re able to fill the tubes - it’s perhaps even three to four times faster than previously, which is amazing.”

KNF Laboratory Equipment has succeeded in uniting design and functionality. In recognition of this achievement, the Red Dot Jury has honoured the Laboport N 820 G with the internationally sought-after Red Dot Award: Product Design for 2020. KNF’s laboratory pumps are known for their reliability and impressively quiet operation. The redesigned Laboport series comprises the N 96, N 820 G and N 840 G models - true all-rounders for everyday lab work. With equipment as versatile as this, the focus is on users’ requirements. KNF’s engineers listened to what users had to say and centred the new design around their feedback on what makes a comfortable workspace. For example, the Laboport N 820 G is equipped with a 3-colour status indicator which shows the current operating mode at a glance. With smooth surfaces, no hard edges, and a seamlessly retractable handle, the device is simple to clean and transport. All of the redesigned Laboport models save an astounding amount of space, addressing one of the typical constraints of laboratory work. This advantage is offered even when the pumps are integrated into modular assemblies to create vacuum systems with a separator and/or condenser. Speed-controlled, chemically resistant for very aggressive and corrosive gases, and, depending on the model, ATEX-compliant - these vacuum pumps are suited to a multitude of laboratory applications, including degassing, fi ltration, liquid aspiration, gel drying, rotary evaporation, SPE and vacuum concentration. The Intuitive Dosing Pump for Aggressive and Corrosive Liquids
Dosing very aggressive and corrosive liquids in laboratories is a challenge. Diaphragm pumps are the ideal tool for this diffi cult task. The SIMDOS® 02 FT (full Tefl on®) has been especially developed for the transfer of aggressive chemicals. To do this, the SIMDOS® 02 FT is fi tted with a PTFE head, a PTFE-covered diaphragm, and chemically resistant FFKM Kalrez® valves. An optionally available Chemraz®-valve kit even allows using the pump with highly concentrated acids such as nitric, sulphuric and hydrochloric acids and solvents such as TFH, DMF, DMSO and MEK. The pump head is situated outside the splash-protected IP-65 housing, providing a very signifi cant safety feature. Also available with heads in PP or PVDF, the new SIMDOS® 02 FT dosing pump transfers liquids with a fl ow rate of 30 µl to 20 ml/min, and dose volumes of 30 µl up to 999 ml. Following calibration, repeatability is +/-1% (full range) and the pump offers excellent long-term stability and consistent reliability throughout entire processes. The SIMDOS® 02 FT is safe to run dry and is self-priming up to 2 m. It is effective against pressures of up to 6 bar, and transfers viscous media up to 150 centistokes. The integrated software permits the transfer parameters to be modifi ed for a range of different viscosities at the touch of a button. Thanks to its neat design and small footprint, the SIMDOS® 02 FT dosing pump takes up very little valuable laboratory space. More information online:

New-Generation Pipette is a Perfect Fit for Every Hand Precision workmanship, high grade materials,
‘Made in Germany quality’ - it’s what you see on first glance and appreciate every time you use the new Transferpette® S from Brand. In your hand, you will experience the finer points of the design. A slim hand-grip fits comfortably and securely in all hands - right, left, big or small. It is lightweight and balanced, with short operating paths for comfort, even in extended pipetting sessions. All functions, from volume setting and pipetting to tip ejection can be performed single-handed without changing your grip. This intuitive design allows for comfortable, efficient operation, essential for lengthy pipetting tasks.
The newly designed volume-change protection of the Transferpette® S prevents inadvertent volume changes, thus providing additional reliability and reproducibility of results. It is easy to operate, even when wearing gloves, and clearly shows whether the volume setting is secured.
Thanks to the slim shaft of the Transferpette® S, you can easily pipette into 15 ml conical tubes, among others. Wiping down the pipette is easy, as the shaft tucks inside the handgrip for smooth surfaces. Experience how simple, easy and efficient pipetting can be with the new Transferpette® S, and find the right single- or multi-channel pipette for your application.
Whether you are using the single-channel pipette or the 8- and 12-channel models, the Transferpette® S is always the first choice for simple and efficient pipetting in demanding applications.
The single-channel pipettes cover a wide volume range from 0.1 µl to 10 ml. Pipettes with small nominal volumes provide high precision for small-volume applications such as those found in molecular biology, e.g. for pipetting enzymes. Large nominal volumes are used for water and environmental analysis, for example, where durability is critical. For standardised applications with specific volumes, economical fixed volume models are offered.
The multi-channel models of the Transferpette® S provides efficiency in microplate and PCR plate work. These 8- and 12-channel pipettes cover the volume range from 0.5 µl to 300 µl. They provide all the advantages of the single-channel models, plus additional features that make work and maintenance easier.
