Experience the digital laboratory
One focus of the world’s leading trade fair for laboratory technology, analysis and biotechnology with the accompanying analytica conference is the digital transformation of the laboratory world. A special show presents the world’s most practice-oriented laboratory-of-the-future concept to date.
“Key topics in the laboratory of the future are going to be digitalisation, miniaturisation and automation,” explained Dr Felix Lenk, head of the SmartLab Systems research group at the Technical University of Dresden. With his team, Dr Lenk is organising and designing the Action Area dedicated to the topic of Laboratory 4.0 at analytica 2020. A total of 17 industrial partners could be enlisted, who are for the first time working together on this scale to implement lab-of-the- future workflows. These include established companies such as Eppendorf, Düperthal, Lauda, Merck, Mettler Toledo, Olympus, in addition to innovative start-ups. The laboratories presented will be created exclusively for analytica 2020 and further information is available at
www.analytica.de/workflows.
Action Area with convertible workflows
At the centre of the Action Area, in alternating demonstrations, two complex laboratory workflows will be shown. The area will be converted several times a day for this purpose. “The laboratory of the future must be able to adapt flexibly to ever new tasks. We are demonstrating here how this can work in practice,” explains Dr Lenk. This setup includes robot arms that support the laboratory staff in manual activities. Semi-transparent data glasses, so-called mixed-reality glasses, will allow information and data to become easily available. The networked equipment - including pipettes, dispensers, pumps, scales and centrifuges - guarantees a consistently digitalised and standardised workflow.
Six smaller hands-on workflows are grouped around the central workflow. Visitors can actively participate and try out laboratory-of-the-future processes. These workflows show, for example, networked temperature controls in bioprocesses, digitalised optical analyses and control of exothermic reactions.
The Action Area is complemented by the Digital Transformation Forum. In lectures and discussion rounds on all days of the show, manufacturers, associations and institutions will give an overview of the current status and future applications of digitalisation in the laboratory.
The supporting program - Forums, Live Labs, and more
The Biotech Forum (Hall A3) and the Laboratory & Analysis Forum (Hall B1) with best-practice presentations by the manufacturers will also be held again. The Biotech Forum program also includes the Finance Days which have been extended in order to provide young companies with even more detailed information about financing models, and to get them into contact with investors.
Also in the Biotech Forum will be the Personalized Medicine theme day. From 10:00 to 15:00, experts from the biotech, pharmaceutical and diagnostics sectors will address the current status and future direction of individualised therapies.
And anyone who would like to use their visit to analytica for their own career planning should not miss the Job Day or the extensive continued training offered by analytica.
Practical tips for laboratory work can also be had from the Food Analysis (Hall A3) and Material Analysis (Hall A1) Live Labs. In the fully equipped laboratory lines, international market leaders demonstrate their products and systems in action. Crowd-pullers furthermore include the ‘explosive’ demonstrations at a special show on workplace health and safety.
analytica conference: Focus on research The analytica conference motto for 2020 is ‘Talking Science’. The conference will take place on the first three days of the trade fair at the ICM Congress Centre of Messe München and bridge the gap between routine analysis and research with some 200 lectures. Renowned scientists from all over the world will not only present the latest methods of chemical analysis and bioanalysis, but will also discuss artificial intelligence and big data, antibiotics resistance and nanoparticles among many other subjects.
An overview of all program items as well as details on lectures and live demonstrations can be found at
www.analytica.de/supporting-program.
Visitor safety at analytica
The Bavarian State Government has created the legal requirements for analytica and adopted a protection and hygiene concept for the trade fair and congress business.
The guidelines are similar to the rules that currently apply in public life, and are based on three cornerstones: distance requirement, hygiene, and traceability of the participants. Hygiene measures include, among other things, more closely timed cleaning cycles and installation of sufficient numbers of disinfectant dispensers for all the participants. As for a possible requirement to wear mouth and nose covers: in September, before the start of the autumnal fairs, the government will ascertain once more whether this is really necessary. In any case, the mouth and nose cover may be removed when talking to customers at tables - a similar regulation also applies in the catering trade.
A unique platform for the scientific industry
Whether at the analytica conference or within the exhibition halls, the exchange of information between the various industry players is always a priority. “By bringing together equipment manufacturers, users and scientists, investors and decision-makers from all over the world and from all analytical disciplines, we drive the innovative power of the industry,” summarises Susanne Grödl. In times of change, interdisciplinary global dialogue plays a key role.
Visitors and exhibitors can stay up-to-date with the latest information and optimise preparations for their visit to the fair by downloading the free analytica app. The app will be available at
www.analytica.de/app prior to the fair.
