YMC has extended its chiral portfolio consisting of immobilised and coated polysaccharide phases with the introduction of the next immobilised CHIRAL ART phase! The new CHIRAL ART Cellulose-SZ offers a new chiral selector. The innovative immobilised chiral selector is cellulose tris(3-chloro-4-methylphenylcarbamate). To date this chiral stationary phase (CSP) has only been available as a coated type from traditional suppliers (e.g. OZ or Cellulose-2).
This new immobilised version provides unrestricted use in NP-, RP- or SFC mode and offers a complementary selectivity of other CHIRAL ART phases. Notably a broader range of different sample solvents is possible. Many substances are inadequately soluble in solvents used for NP mode and solvents such as THF, DMF, DMSO or dichloromethane have to be removed, even in trace concentrations when using coated phases. In contrast, the immobilised CHIRAL ART Cellulose-SZ phase offers full compatibility and therefore much more flexibility.
CHIRAL ART Cellulose-SZ is (initially) available with 3 and 5 µm for analytical and (semi) preparative applications. In common with the other YMC chiral immobilised phases, CHIRAL ART Amylose-SA, Cellulose-SB, Cellulose SC and Cellulose-SJ, CHIRAL ART Cellulose-SZ ensures robust analyses. All CHIRAL ART phases have the same YMC silica base and the YMC-developed coating or bonding technology in common, while their chiral selectivities are quite different. The excellent lot-to-lot reproducibility for which YMC is well known, guarantees reliable results e.g. for QC purposes. CHIRAL ART columns are not only very long-lasting, but also more attractively priced.

Fast and effective removal of interfering proteins
Incorporating a novel dual hydrophobically treated matrix filter, Microlute™ Protein Precipitation Plate from Porvair Sciences set a new standard for labs looking to remove interfering proteins from serum, plasma or even whole blood samples prior to analysis by Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS).
Biological samples commonly contain proteins that interfere with downstream applications such as LC/MS analysis. Microlute™ Protein Precipitation Plates (PPP) use the CRASH method, in which protein is denatured with acetonitrile and the flocculant filtered out, allowing 96 samples to be processed in parallel.
Based on the industry standard MicroLute™ format, but without the chromatographic sorbent, protein ‘crashes’ out of solution and precipitates directly in each
well when acetonitrile is added, thus solving all common problems associated with the CRASH technique of protein clean-up. The novel dual frit, hydrophobically treated matrix used by the Microlute™ PPP means that there is no ‘wetting out’ and leakage of sample before the application of vacuum.
Due to its ease of use, high performance and reliability the Microlute™ PPP is commonly used as the protein precipitation plate of choice in many major pharmaceutical companies worldwide.
