New Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope Combines High-performance with Ease of Use

Olympus’ FLUOVIEW FV3000 confocal laser scanning microscope combines high-performance imaging capabilities with ease of use so researchers in such fields as cell biology, cancer research and stem cell research can collect relevant imaging data quickly and easily.

Built for fast, stable and accurate measurements of biological reactions within living cells and tissues, Olympus’ FV3000 offers flexibility for all live-cell imaging applications, providing high-resolution images of structures and dynamic intracellular processes.

Succeeding the well-established FV1200, the FV3000 is controlled via a new, intuitive software interface so even novice users can generate high-quality data and images. Meeting today’s application demands the system’s new optical design offers unique macro to micro imaging capabilities with objectives ranging from 1.25X to 150X magnification. Users can choose either the FV3000 with galvanometer scanner or the FV3000RS with a hybrid resonant / galvanometer scanner. The high-speed resonant scanner enables users to acquire high-resolution images at up to 438 frames per second so scientists can observe fast-changing processes.

The Olympus TruSpectral detection system is optimised for maximum efficiency when delivering emission light to detectors. Users have the freedom to select the exact wavelength range they wish to capture in every detection channel at nanometer precision.

FLUOVIEW software has been designed with an intuitive interface that can be tailored to adapt to the way an individual works. Users can create and save workflows and customise the interface’s layout for easy access to commonly used applications. A new system architecture enables researchers to execute a variety of observation procedures such as changing the scanning range or laser light midway through an experiment with millisecond precision.

New Economical and Reliable Multi-Mode Microplate Reader

BioTek introduces the affordable, user-friendly Synergy™ LX Multi-Mode Microplate Reader to automate the most common microplate-based assays. A high quality, unique dual-optics design enables absorbance, fluorescence and luminescence measurements without compromising performance or budget.

“There are many multi-mode microplate readers on the market, but Synergy LX was designed specifically for the most common endpoint applications such as nucleic acid and protein quantification, ELISA and cell viability assays, with an interface that is simple to navigate.” says Gary Barush, BioTek’s Global Director of Marketing & Sales.

The 200-999 nm range encompasses a broad range of UV-Vis absorbance assays, including 2 µL measurements when used with the Take3 Micro-Volume Plate. Filter and dichroic cubes are easily exchanged to enable multiple applications in fluorescence intensity and luminescence. The large touchscreen allows both easy operation and immediate data display - and with one touch, data is output to a USB flash drive for further analysis in Gen5 Software. Synergy LX is modular, allowing detection modules to be added as needed, and is affordable for most laboratory budgets.

New ELISA Fluorescent 90-Minute Assay Announced

CatchPoint® SimpleStep® ELISA (SSE) kits from Abcam provide a simple and fast protocol with a single-wash step, assay time of 90 minutes or less, and a fluorometric readout that delivers an extended dynamic range.

Developed using Abcam’s SimpleStep ELISA technology and Molecular Devices’ CatchPoint fluorescent substrate, the addition of these kits to Abcam’s SimpleStep portfolio means that researchers can now choose from both fluorometric and colorimetric kits based on their experimental needs, with high-quality and highly-specific Abcam antibodies.

CatchPoint’s fluorescent substrate provides significantly improved linearity over an extended dynamic range when compared to TMB substrate. This extended dynamic range at both the lower and the upper end of readout curves reduces the need for sample dilutions, and allows quantitation at lower protein concentrations, improving sensitivity. The CatchPoint SSE kits are also validated across a wide range of biological samples and optimised for Molecular Devices microplate readers, providing reproducible results across many different undiluted sample types on industry-leading instrumentation.

CatchPoint SSE kits employ highly-validated antibodies, the majority of which have been developed using Abcam’s recombinant monoclonal antibody technology. Recombinant antibodies provide specificity and lot-to-lot reproducibility for consistent experimental results.

CatchPoint SSE as well as SimpleStep colorimetric kits, serve a wide range of interests, including cancer, neuroscience, cardiovascular and immunology research. These kits are available through the Abcam website and authorised distributors.

Reporter Lentivirus for Signalling Pathway Studies

Amsbio provides a range of ready-to-use Reporter Lentivirus for assessing cell signalling activities in virtually any mammalian cell type.

These pre-made products use a unique combination of transcription factor reporter technology coupled with lentiviral delivery to provide a simple, highly sensitive method capable of operating over a large dynamic range.

By measuring the activities of a reporter, Amsbio Reporter Lentivirus can be used for performing gene regulation studies in living mammalian cells and for functional genomics as well as drug screening cell signallling assays. In addition Reporter Lentivirus can be used for generating your own pathway screening assay cell lines for the cell based assay in your desired cell types.

Amsbio offers a wide range of ‘signalling pathway lentiviruses’ for rapid, sensitive and quantitative monitoring of transduction pathway activation. These lentiviruses express a luminescent or fluorescent reporter under a pathway specific promoter or under a minimal promoter with embedded multiple tandem repeats incorporating pathway specific transcription factor binding motif. The pathway null control lentivirus has the minimal promoter without any signal pathway’s response elements inside the promoter. These lentiviruses also express an antibiotic selection marker or another fluorescent marker under a constitutive RSV promoter which serve as the internal normalisation control or as a convenient monitoring method for virus transduction efficiency. Options include androgen and oestrogen receptors, JNK, NF-?B, Notch and Wnt signalling pathways.
