Radiation Sterilisation Leader Announces UK Expansion
Integrated Hoist for Vertical Autoclaves adds Loading Safety and Versatility
Astell Scientifi c has added a new lifting hoist to the options available on its main top-loading circular section autoclave range. The electrically powered hoist can raise and lower loads of up to 40kg and provides a safe way to manage tall, heavy or bulky items, mitigating the potential for personal injury or accidental damage.
The hoist comprises of a 3-position boom arm which can be lowered and folded for storage, a durable electronic winch motor controlled by a tethered remote control box, and a quick release load fastening clip that will securely attach to the handle of a wire basket or Morrison container.
Astell’s top loading autoclaves are available in 95, 120 and 135 litre capacities and can be specifi ed with a combination of pre/post vacuum, heated jacket and integral steam generator making them suitable for sterilising a wide variety of load types. Allied to the lifting hoist, they are ideally suited to laboratories processing large volumes of media or fl uid discard for example, where the addition of Load Sensed Process Timing, Fan Cooling and Air Ballast options would provide a signifi cant benefi t to process times and the number of cycles run per day.

Sterility is indispensable in the laboratory world. This is the only way to rule out a faultless process chain free from external infl uences. But how can you ensure that products are reliably sterilised?

Even under the best conditions of hygiene, the manufacture of a product, including its packaging, cannot result in a sterile state. BGS is set to expand its activities in the UK. For this reason the company has been promoting its services for the fi rst time at Health GB Manchester.
“The UK market for medical devices is the third largest in Europe and has a signifi cant demand for high-quality sterilisation services,” said CEO Dr Andreas Ostrowicki.
BGS uses gamma- and eBeam-treatment for all applications where pathogenic germs can cause danger to human or animal health, or where micro-organisms might have a detrimental effect.
The company specialises in reducing contamination across a broad product spectrum. These include medical devices, packaging for pharmaceutical products, equipment for biotechnological applications, raw materials and cosmetics.
BGS operates three radiation centres in Germany and has just launched a new, state-of-the-art gamma radiation facility at its Bruchsal site, with an annual capacity of 80,000 pallets for the European market.
BGS is a recognised expert in the application of radiation technology using accelerated electrons (eBeam) and gamma rays for sterilisation as well as optimising polymers by crosslinking.
Whilst eBeam has seen strong development for sterilising medical devices, gamma irradiation is still regarded as indispensable.
